In loving memory of Joan Christie who sadly passed away on 27th February 2020
Mum was born in Ireland on 30 May 1934. She met dad when they were both in school and initially found him very annoying. She came over to England when she was 18 and Dad followed her. They married in St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Church Wandsworth and on 23 January this year they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
Mum trained as a nurse and qualified in the early 70’s. She loved the work and had a long distinguished career. Mum rose in the ranks to become Sister and then Nurse in Charge in St Thomas’ hospital. She went on the be deputy matron of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea.
Mum loved life and was gregarious and outgoing, there were many parties! Her Christmas parties in Andover become the stuff of legend. She always had something on the go, planning a trip, joining many clubs in her retirement including the wine circle, the University of the Third Age, Breatheasy and even spent time fundraising for the British Lung Foundation. There was always a job for dad to do around the house or garden too. She kept him busy!
She and dad have five children, Ann (Liz to friends), Maureen, Val, Michael and Helen. They have quite an empire now, with 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was proud of all of them and will be much missed.
Please feel free to join our celebration of mums life at Easthampstead Park and afterwards at the Hilton Hotel Bracknell Bagshot Road Bracknell RG29 0QJ. If you would like to make a donation in mums memory please use the link above to make a donation to the British Lung Foundation.
Mum wanted a celebration so please feel free to dress in bright colours.

I’m in the ranks somewhere with auntie Joan at the front with the Chelsea pensioners! We missed each other at Lourdes! It wasn’t till I got home I realised we’d missed each other. It was Lourdes military pilgrimage 1987. Rest in peace my lovely auntie.X
