Dearest Paul. Over the last two years we became firm friends. We had many things in common, our ages, both 58, so we were brought up in the same era. You loved your soul music and would talk about the bands and artists you had seen, me more a heavy rock fan , but between us we had a good knowledge of the world of music and we constantly amazed each other by what we knew and who we had seen live.
Then of course there was football, a big part of both our lives. You, a lifelong Saints fan, and me a lifelong Cherries fan. We would have a few words about our clubs fortunes over the weekend. But one of my favourite times with you was when we had our early morning tea together. We would have a chat for a few minutes and what was clear from these was the love you had for your wife, Georgina, you always said that she was everything to you.
Paul, I salute you, a warrior of a man, you were one of the good guys, and I shall miss you.
Life is a journey but when it ends the journey continues, the memories remain.
This is Adios but not goodbye.
Your music and football buddy Martyn.
