This is not something that I wanted to write or even think that I would have to write so soon, Chris started his battle with Cancer 2 years ago and although he fought hard it won in the end on the 14th February, although it was a hard battle, even harder in the last few weeks he had a good fight and he never lost his sense of humour or his witty one liners throughout. Even taking a photo of a health and safety issue in the hospital waiting room and emailing it over to the right department, next time he went to that waiting room it had been rectified (once a health and safety advisor, always a health and safety advisor)

This last week has been so hard for our family adjusting to our lives without him in it. We have spent a lot of time looking at photos and talking about our memories and these will bring us comfort. Can I ask if you have any photos or memories that you have shared with Chris that you send them to me as these will bring us happiness to see and read, it really does help to know Chris from a different angle.

We are asking for donations rather than flowers and the donations will be given to the breast cancer charity, we are all passionate about making the awareness and support for breast cancer in males more talked and known about, things need to change regarding male breast cancer as we have come up with so many barriers and all leaflets, information and statistics have been on woman breast cancer. If he had been sent to the hospital sooner I might not be having to write this so soon.

After the funeral we will be attending The Horse and Jockey, 96 Church Lane, NG16 6FE. It’s only right we go back to celebrate Chris’s life at his local two pint club local.

Thank you for all of the kind words, support and messages we have received.

Please use the Attendance tab on the obituary to let us know if you are able to attend the funeral and celebration of life afterwards. Thank you.

Lots of love

  • Thank you for this message, he so wanted to get back and have his '2 pints' with you all. He told the doctor on numerous occasions that was his plan for when he got out. xx

I first met Chris whilst working for Erewah Training Services, based in Staunton and Staveley, circa mid 80s. From there I set up Long Eaton Training Services where Chris and I worked together for some years having many experiences and laughs along the way.
Chris and I trained and qualified in Occupational Health and Safety together and jointly developed recording systems to deal with the work load that we had. One such system was to produce a checklist of H. and S. requirements, with a tick box column and a comments box at the bottom of the page. This was a new, radical, time and cost saving concept at the time.
Chris went to work for Derbyshire County Council and I remember a call from him saying, "Bloody hell Westy, you won't believe what the office have bought me for Christmas - - - - - - - - An ink pad and a rubber stamp with a tick on it!!!"
Clearly they had taken on board our tick box list idea.
Chris used to come fox shooting, with me, up in Dovedale and I remember well one occasion when we had to crawl for 500 yds over a massively deep snowdrift, ending up with our beards crusted with frost and ice. It quickly thawed out in the pub afterwards.

I have very fond memories of Chris and Mags visiting us in Devon.

Chris was one in a mill' and a real gentleman. The world will be a worse place for his exit. Our thoughts are with you Mags. Xx
