In loving memory of Theresa Carmen Andrew who sadly passed away on 13th February 2020.

Therese Carmen Andrew 1928-2020

Theresa Carmen Andrew was born on 26 November 1928 to Joseph and Alice Beins in Malacca, Malaysia.
Carmen was the eldest of 11 children and grew up in the Portuguese Settlement, as a teenager she witnessed the Japanese occupation during World War II. Life in those times of her life were very hard.

Carmen has 6 daughters, Diana, Hazel, Cindy, Margie, Sandie and Marina.
The first time the 6 sisters were all together was when Carmen celebrated her 90th birthday here in Newark, the party being held here at the Holy Trinity Catholic Community Centre. It was a real mission to keep the secret and involved a lot of plotting and planning by the family.

Carmen was a keen cook and for all occasions would make her famous Curry Puffs and Malaysian cuisine, much to everyone’s delight.
At Christmas time, she would always give gifts of her home-made Asian Pickles and Pineapple Tarts. They made great presents which we all looked forward to.

After living in many countries overseas, she chose Newark to finally settle and lived here happily for a total of 40 years.
She leaves behind her 6 daughters, 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren who are spread all around the globe.
She will be sadly missed, but we all have cherished memories of her held forever in our hearts.

All welcome at mums funeral on 27th February at 11;15 for 11:30am. Service at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Boundary Road, Newark, NG24 4AV and afterwards at The Tudor Rooms, National Civil War Centre, 14 Appleton Gate, NG24 1JY

Donations in Carmen's memory to Beaumond House. The ladies that visited and cared for her in the last few weeks were so kind and really made a difference during such a difficult time.

Many years ago Carmen introduced me to her amazing Asian pickles - so every time I saw her I would drop a hint about getting another jar. I will savour my last jar with the care and love that went into making them.
Rest in peace Carmen.

Some years ago Carmen kindly introduced me to her delicious Asian pickles! Whenever I saw her after that I would drop hints for a replacement jar.
My remaining half jar will be consumed with all the care and love that went into making them.
I can only hope that the recipe was passed on to one of her of her equally wonderful daughters!
