Ken's funeral is Saturday 22nd February at Mansfield Crematorium 11.15am.

In loving memory of Kenneth Worboys who sadly passed away on 30th January 2020.

Ken was one of 5 children born in Mansfield on 14 September 1945 to Frank and Ethel. He started his working life at Fairbrothers shoe Makers, then to Landers Bakery and ending his working career as a miner working at Sherwood Colliery and finally Bilsthorpe Colliery.

Ken met Valerie at the age of 13 and they married on 24 July 1965 and have been together to this day. They have 5 children Wendy, Lee, Sally, Steve and Richard. Family was a really important part of Ken’s life and he spent most of his later years with his family and 9 grandchildren Jamie, Abbie, Leeanne, Lauren, Ben, Jack, Liam, Georgia and Harley and was delighted to see his first great-grandchild Ennis be born in September 2019.

Ken lived a very busy life and even in retirement was always taxi’ing someone somewhere or watching his grandchildren playing football or dancing. He also loved spending time with his brother Frank, sister Yvonne and friends which included Mick and Phil.

Ken lost his battle to cancer after a relatively short illness on 30th January with his loving wife and 5 children by his side.

Grandad, i love you and I miss you more as days go by, there will never be a man funnier than you, I remember the time when you used to tell me the stories of ‘2 men sat in a tent’ and when you went to make tea you sing ‘you full up my senses’, I love you

Grandad, You are the best person I have ever met in my life. i am so fortunate to have a grandad as brilliant as you. You are a really selfless person that puts anyone before yourself, you are a such a genuine person. How much I love you words can’t describe. Everyone in life should take a note out of your book with all of your good manners and wellbeing. You have always been there for me whenever I needed you. Thankyou for always supporting me when in life, like my dancing and especially my football. You gave me that extra boost whatever sport i was playing. Thankyou for always treating me randomly, those little things really brightened up my day. You are my best friend and Grandad all in one. You have always been that other parent when my dad hasn’t been here, and I really appreciate that. You are so nice to give up your own time to just take me where ever whenever. You have such a great sense of humour as well. You never failed to put a smile on my face. I love you more than words can describe and so does everyone that knows you. Everyone thinks very dearly of you and me especially. You are now at peace and i know it is vey hard to accept that you are gone. Nana is doing you really proud. How much i need you every day words cannot describe. When i grow up i aspire to be like you, loving, caring and also selfless. Sleep well Grandad, you are my rock, you are my hero. Love you xxx

So sorry that I couldn't attend your funeral Ken, I really wanted to see you off, give Val a hug and pass on our condolences to all, but we had to be in Manchester during the time of your funeral.
You were an excellent friend to my mum and dad, an excellent father/grandfather. I know how much you and Val selflessly centered your own lives around the kids, grandkids, even preferring to stay home than go on holiday in times past, when my mum and dad asked for you to join them somewhere.
I have lots of fond memories of you and Val, spending time at Christmas with my mum and dad. You were all like family to me as I spent a lot of time with you all.
I know how massive your loss will be. I also know the kids will be looking after Val and won't let her spend one minute alone, because that's how you raised them all, to put family first.
Anyway my post is far too long to do you justice. I'll fondly remember one of your funny jokes and colloquialisms such as "p*ss*ng hell fire" and "what's up wi ya woman? " (hope I'm allowed to say that!!) and say goodbye. Say hello to my mum and dad up there. Lots of love, Karen x

Growing up, I learned that any good and responsible man can be a Dad even if you are not related to that person by blood this is something that I totally agree with, I like to think of Ken as my English Dad the best father in law anyone could want and he also looked good in a kilt.
Rest in Peace Ken now you are free but we’ve all lost someone very special
