In loving memory of Malcolm Steward who sadly passed away on 7th January 2020
"For some, Malcolm was ‘was one of the nicest grumpy old buggers’ they’d ever met; for others he was ‘one of the UK's great audio journalists’; and for many he was an inspiration, both in their choice of hi-fi systems and the exploration of new music. Always opinionated, sometimes – well, often – cantankerous, and never afraid to tell it as he saw it, Malcolm was admired for his ability to put into words exactly what he heard, fizz with enthusiasm when he loved something, and pull no punches when he didn’t. Readers bought magazines purely for his writing, and manufacturers respected the fairness and thoroughness with which he considered their products. Above all, he was a superb friend with whom to spend time, whether in person or via his writing, and the whole world of hi-fi is a poorer place for his loss." Andrew Everard
Malcolm's funeral is taking place at Torquay Crematorium on Thursday 23rd January at 1:20pm.
He would love to know we'd had a good party to celebrate his life so all friends are welcome. A short ceremony at the crematorium will be followed by a buffet lunch at the Glenorleigh, Cleveland Road, Torquay (opposite our home). Rooms are available at the Glenorleigh for anyone who'd like to stay over. If booking a room please call the lovely Kelly direct on 01803 292135 as the hotel is closed for the winter season and she is opening just for us!
If you'd like to make a donation in Malcolm's memory we are giving to Diabetes UK and to say thank you for the incredible care he received over 18 months at Mountbatten Nursing Home we'd like to donate to their Residents Fund. The fund provides outings and entertainment for their seriously ill patients.
