I just want to post the eulogy I read out at the service on Friday...
Good morning everyone and thank you for coming along to say your goodbyes to Dad with us.
I know you will all have your own memories of times that you spent with him and I would just like to share a few of my favourite memories with you now.
As we all know Dad’s greatest passion was for football and one team in particular - Liverpool FC. I remember the first time that he took me to Anfield where I saw them play Tottenham and win the League. From that day it became my passion too and Dad and I enjoyed many more visits to Anfield together!
We also made several trips to Wembley to support our team and on one such trip I enjoyed my very first beer and then several more, later when Liverpool won! Our trips to Wembley often involved a pit stop at Truckers Retreat where Dad and his mates indulged in the amber nectar whilst I sipped on my lemonade!
Dad and I also shared a passion for music and went to several gigs together including Echo and the Bunnymen – another nod to his Liverpudlian roots.
Our road trips were not limited to coaches – we also ventured out on the Shakespeare Express travelling from Birmingham to Stratford upon Avon where we explored the Baird’s birthplace before our speedy return home. Dad loved trains, having worked on them for most of his adult life, and this was a special day for us.
I will miss my Dad more than I can say and it is going to be a bitter sweet occasion when Liverpool win the league again and is not there with me to celebrate but Dad, remember “you’ll never walk alone”.
Goodnight
God Bless
