In 1981, my mother died and Hazel wrote me a letter which I have kept to this day. She wrote that I could always go to her as a Mother figure. I have always appreciated her kind, thoughtful words which were a great comfort. On the occasions I have met with Hazel and the Savage family I have always been welcomed with their trademark warmth, humour and hospitality. Every Christmas I looked forward to receiving Hazel's handmade Christmas cards - many of which I have kept. She made an impression upon me as a well loved, respected Mother figure and a positive role model. I am so grateful to have known her! My thoughts are with all the family.
