In loving memory of Jean Mitchell who sadly passed away on 29th November 2019
Jean lived her whole life in Lowestoft, except one small period where she was evacuated to DoeLea in Derbyshire.
As a child she lived on East Street on the old Beach Estate and was a True Grit as they were known.
She had an older sister ,Peggy, a younger brother, Derek, who have also both sadly passed away.
She married Brian and spent over 60 years together in a really loving marriage.
They had three children ,Susan ,Graham and Allison.
Jean worked hard throughout her life, managing to keep a job and bring up the family.
Her last role was at Marks & Spencer as a store detective until she retired.
She had a good retirement and used the time well for holidays and relaxing.
Sadly Brian was taken in December 2017 following a road traffic accident .
She spent the last two years on her own and the last 6 months with the care team at Harleston House until Friday 29th November when she passed very peacefully.

It was the hardest day yesterday saying our final goodbyes mum. As has been said so many times you’re with dad again, where you’ve wanted to be for some time.

Your memories will live on - and boy do we have a lifetime of fabulous memories of you. And it goes without saying that we will be remembering and loving you for the rest of our lives

It wouldn’t be right mum if I didn’t sign off from this book by saying be good mum - and if you can’t be good be careful ❤️

What an emotional day! The thought of saying goodbye to mum, of mum and dad being back together, all of the people in mums life arriving to say goodbye!
Thank you to everyone who attended and showed the respect our mother deserved.
I would like to thank Hazel for the exceptional delivery of mums life, broke my heart in places, to the co-op funeral service who were absolutely brilliant and caring throughout, to Harleston House and some of the residents for attending. But most of all I want to say thank you to my family , all the things we remembered, all the things shared and all the emotions that show true, honest love!
Thank you all

You can shed tears that she has gone,
Or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she has gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind
Be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what mum would have wanted
Smile, open your eyes, love and go on

Dear Nanny. I still cannot believe that you have gone and I have to say my final goodbye to you. The last two years we have done so much together and I have really enjoyed our holidays, days out and tea visits. You became a very big part of my life, as I did yours, and you have left such a huge gap. Not only were you my nan but you were a great friend

That gap will be filled with an ongoing love for you and happy memories. Ever since I was younger you have had an influence on my life and even recently you were helping me make decisions and guiding me (sorry for laughing but they weren't all good!)

Its so hard to take in that I have to carry on without you. Each week when I left you to go home you would say 'mind how you go', 'drive safe', 'take care', 'look after yourself' and I know these were all your ways of letting me know you loved me

I will forever remember the good times and you have such a special place in my heart, you will be forever with me. Until we meet again, love you loads beautiful, teresa xxxxxxx❤❤❤❤

Mum you fought so hard over the last 2 years. I know how much you missed dad and on top of that you moved twice. So many changes that the road got to long and you became weary.
All through life you put family first. Sunday afternoons was family time we went out for picnics and on the beach, sometimes with extended family and friends. We had some good holidays in Filey,Torquay and Derbyshire again sometimes with extended family.
We had ups and downs but you always supported me and mine. You always enjoyed Teresa and Lisa visiting you and looking after them for me.
It's as we get older we realise the true value of a much loved mum.
Especially over the last 4 years I felt I was able to give back to you as you gave to me. Amongst the years we have had some tears but lots of laughs as well. Long talks whilst waiting for appointments and when visiting and taking you out.
The last 6 months whilst you have been in Harleston House we have sang songs, joined in with quizzes, done jigsaw and talked about old times over a cup of tea.
I am going to miss you mum but you will always be in my heart.
Rest safely in dads arms where you always wanted to be. Not only your loving husband but your soul mate. Love you always.....Susan xxx

I was so sad to hear that Aunt Jean has left us. Lots of memories as a kid at Christmas and those amazing sausage rolls (including her baking one with a peg in it for dad!). Firework nights too.

Thinking if you all xxx

Nanny,

Thank you for all the wonderful memories that I will cherish forever and look back on and smile. All the times when I was little and you and grandad would take me on days out to the zoo or to the beach and we would throw a message in a bottle out to sea and see if anyone wrote back. (They never did! And we also probably contributed to all the plastic that’s in the oceans now that everyone worries about - oops!) You started my love of baking when we used to make jam tarts and fairy cakes and I would eat as much of the cake mix as I could! And don’t even get me started on the meat patties, the best dinner by far!

Of course my most favourite memory is the time you sat in your garden sun lounger which you hadn’t put up properly and it folded up with you stuck in the middle, this will never fail to make me laugh and sorry for sharing it here where everyone will see and laugh too!

We are all so sad that you had to leave us but I know you will be back with grandad now, I’m sure he’s been lost without you telling him what to do every day! And I know both of you will be with us all, watching over your family that you both loved so much.

Love you both lots. X
