In loving memory of Michael Howell who sadly passed away at home on the 8th April 2015 being cared for by his wife and 4 sons after a short battle with cancer.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Macmillan Cancer Support in order that others may receive help while receiving palliative care.

Michael Dennis Howell was born in Newark where he grew up with his Mum and Grandad until the age of 7 as his father was based in the RAF. He had one younger brother David. You can see the family in one of the photo's on this website. As he grew up he went to schools in Coddington, Sleeford and Grantham. His first job was working in the Royal Exchange insurance offices on Maid Marian Way in Nottingham. At the age of 22 he started working in the NHS in Nottingham and spent most of his working life as a manager.

Mike married his wife Dorothy in 1968. They have four sons Christopher, Richard, Philip and William and two grandchildren Alex and Oliver.

Mike loved gardening, having had an allotment all the way from the age of 25 right up until a few weeks before he passed away. He also enjoyed riding motorbikes and would spend time with his sons Philip and William on days out on the bikes. His other passion was playing the piano and listening to piano music.

In their retirement Mike and Dorothy spent several years, in the warmer months on a canal boat and enjoyed doing many walks in the countryside. He would often go for a walk in the Peak District.

Mike had a good life, with a loving wife and family, and will be sadly missed.

Please feel free to leave any messages, memories or photos of Mike on here.

A school friend wrote to say that Michael was a legend to those who were rebels. Another wrote that he was a man you want on the lifeboat with you. My talented brother is sadly missed.

Tracy Morson donated £10 in memory of Michael

My fondest memories of Mike are of him playing the piano at home, loud enough so that it could be heard in the rest of the house, thinking what a lovely sound, and of him and his son William discussing their shared love of motorbikes. My thoughts are with his family at this sad and difficult time. Tracy
