Sybil Macmillan Cancer Support, Lincolnshire Nurses
Sybil was born in Chesterfield in March 1928 and spent the formative years of her life living in New Whittington with her parents Bill and Irene and her sister Margaret.
She met her future husband George during the war years and after they married on 4th October 1947 she relocated to the village of Steep in Hampshire. Their son, David, was born in April 1949.
After 30 happy years there she and George retired to Bilsby in Lincolnshire at the end of 1979 but their time together there proved to be short lived as George passed away in March 1980.
Sybil remarried in 1981 but was divorced in 1990.
She held a number of jobs throughout her life; working as a petrol station attendant, a care home assistant and latterly for a number of years in the Spar shop in the village.
She enjoyed her garden a great deal and grew a variety of flowers, fruit and vegetables. She also kept bees for a number of years, selling honey from her bungalow and later on she enjoyed cooking and baking for the local W.I. in Alford.
The loss of David to Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in September 2018 hit Sybil hard and her health deteriorated further before she passed away on 29th October.
Sybil leaves behind four Grandchildren and eight Great-Grandchildren and lives on in the many happy memories they have from the times they shared with her. Her independent spirit and views on the state of the world are already much missed.
Sybil requested no flowers but if you feel that you would like to make a donation in Sybil’s memory the family would ask you to consider supporting Macmillan Cancer Support, who helped to care for her son David towards the end of his life.
