In loving memory of Sandra Diane David, who sadly passed away on 5th November 2019; a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Sandra was born and raised in Nottingham to parents Grace and Frank. She had an older sister, Pat, who as an adult, moved to South Africa with her young family.

Sandra married Bryn in September 1968 and this year they celebrated 51 years of marriage together. Sandra worked as a telephonist for General Post Office before having two daughters, Claire and Emma. During Claire and Emma's early years at school she would help out in class and with school trips. As Claire and Emma grew older she returned to work, in retail and later returning to her profession as a telephonist, working her way up to become Switchboard Manager at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham. She made some lifelong friends at QMC and continued to enjoy socialising with them after retiring.

Before arthritis made it difficult, Sandra enjoyed knitting and knitted many a winter jumper for her children and grandchildren. She had an interest in antique silver and liked to visit antiques shops and fairs to hunt for a bargain. Sandra and Bryn enjoyed holidaying in the UK and abroad. They visited South Africa on two occasions to visit family. Sandra had an American pen-pal, Kathy, from the age of 10. Despite life events on both sides, they kept in touch and during a trip to America last year Sandra and Bryn visited Kathy and her family in Knoxville; a lifelong dream of Sandra’s achieved. Bryn had a passion for fishing; after retiring Sandra would accompany him with her own fishing gear and could certainly give him a run for his money with the quality of her catch.

Sandra and Bryn have kept dogs for many years, Storm being the current member of the family, and enjoyed many trips into Derbyshire to walk them. Sadly, this became increasingly difficult over the past year as her health declined.

The most important thing in Sandra’s life was her family. She adored her grandchildren and they, Chloe, Aidan and Kye, loved spending time with her.

Sandra will be remembered for being a selfless, loving, devoted, fiercely independent, determined, optimistic and hopeful woman; an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed.

A service in memory of Sandra will take place at Bramcote Crematorium on 28th November at 2pm, followed by a wake at The Sherwin Arms, Derby Road, Bramcote, NG9 3JN. We want this to be a celebration of Sandra's life, so please don't feel that you have to wear black. Immediate family flowers only please. Donations to British Lung Foundation appreciated - these can be made via the JustGiving link.

I only met Sandra once but it was enough to see she was a lovely lady. Taken far too soon. My thoughts are with all her family.
