1937 - 2019
Colin Roy Lockhart, 82, of Orpington, Kent, sadly passed away on Monday 28th October 2019 at his home, surrounded by loved ones.
Colin is survived by his wife Ann of 57 years, his four children, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, niece Carol Wickham, and nephew Richard Lockhart.
Colin was born in Walton Road in the borough of East Ham on Saturday 24th April 1937.
The son of Nelson James and Daisy Emma Lockhart. Colin was the youngest of three boys, Derek, Reginald ‘Reg’, and Colin. He loved his family dearly and had the most beautiful memories of his childhood and family.
In 1951, Colin attended Stockwell College Bromley, now known as the Bromley College of Further and Higher Education. During Colin’s time at Stockwell College he studied to become a plumber. In 1954 Colin began an apprenticeship with the college to work on site as a plumber.
In 1955, Colin took a short break from his apprenticeship to join the Royal Army Reserves. During his service Colin spent time in Cyprus and received a GSM, for peace keeping. The medal was presented at the end of his service abroad in 1957. Colin remained on reserve until April 1961 when he was then discharged.
Once the Army service had concluded in 1957, he began his apprenticeship again with Stockwell College finishing his final year on site at Walter Babbs LTD. Walter Babbs was a family run company that was well known around the Kent community. Colin completed his apprenticeship with Walter Babbs, awarded by Stockwell College, Bromley in 1958. He remained working as a plumber with Walter Babbs until 1962, working on various places within his hometown of Orpington and over the Kent area.
In 1962, Colin went self-employed and set up his own plumbing business, Colin Roy Lockhart Plumber and Trades Man. Over the years he added services to his business that included new trades; construction, electrician, painter, and decorator. Colin was well known within his community and was an incredible crafts and tradesman.
In 2001, he retired and spent his remaining years with his wife and family. Enjoying every moment of his time and making precious memories.
In 1958, on a coach trip to Southend-on-Sea Colin met Ann Valerie Mcdonald, his forever and always. The two were instant soul mates and started their life journey together, this leading to an amazing 57 years of marriage.
Colin and Ann courted until 1962, when they then became one through marriage.
On Saturday 9th June 1962, Colin and Ann married in front of God at the All Saints Church, Belvedere, Dartford. This was in the presence of W. M.F. Willoughley, Vicar. Reginald Robert Lockhart and Hector Mcdonald.
Colin loved Ann with all his heart, she was his everything. They remained together until the very end of his life. Colin left this world holding her hand.
Colin and Ann had four amazing children together. Their first born was their son, Martin Roy Lockhart, born Sunday 19th May 1963. Their second child was Denise Jane Lockhart, born Tuesday 15th June 1965. A second daughter followed, Elaine Ann Lockhart, born Thursday 7th November 1968. And finally, their fourth child, a second son, Alan Michael Lockhart, born Friday 10th December 1971. Colin and Ann dedicated their life to their children, they loved them with all their hearts.
In 1986, Colin and Ann became grandparents. Their second daughter Elaine Ann Lockhart and Paul Simon Fisher conceived a daughter Amy Louise Fisher. Amy was born at Queen Marys Hospital Sidcup on Sunday 14th September 1986.
In 1996, a second granddaughter was conceived by their first born daughter Denise Jane Lockhart and her partner Jeff Fosker. Holly Rae Fosker was born on Tuesday 3rd December 1996.
In 1998, a third granddaughter was conceived by Denise Jane Lockhart and Jeff Fosker. Hannah Katie Fosker was born on Saturday 2nd May 1998.
In 2003, they welcomed their fourth grandchild, Rubie Eve Lockhart. Conceived by their second son Alan Michael Lockhart and his wife Penny Lockhart. Rubie Eve Lockhart was born on Thursday 20th November 2003.
In 2013, Colin and Ann welcomed their first great grandchild, Poppy Lorelai Amy Congalton. Poppy was conceived by their first grandchild Amy and her husband Brandon Myles Congalton. Poppy was born on Thursday 7th February 2013.
Colin loved his life and took great pleasure in the happiness of his family. He left this world surrounded by his loved ones, just how he wanted it.
He will be deeply missed.
