Doreen was alway such a supportive person, warm and charming. She was a natural with children and young people and helping them overcome their challenges. Young people loved her funny relaxed manner and she managed to connect with them seeing their potential and helping them see the potential in themselves. She was also supportive of me when I was persuaded to act along side her as the hopeless and helpless friend in Talent.
She must have been dismayed once she knew I had been cast to work along side her, my experience was zero. But she helped me believe I could do it and I muddled along and managed with her support to get through it. Little did I know Talent would become a firm favourite of Doreen’s, regularly put in the video player after one of her legendary dinner parties. The became almost a “tradition” which everyone loved. However it did result in me being stopped in the street by people I hardly knew saying, “ Saw you on the telly last night at Mike and Doreen's” . The funniest was when we were in the bar at the RSC, someone cane up to me and said saw you last night etc. The American couple next to us could stop staring trying to work out who I was.

The best experience was when I was approached by a couple of Doreen’s friends in the bar at the RSC.
The American couple standing next two us stared with delight, wondering who this British television star was.
