John Edward Trotter was born in Camberwell to Henry and Winifred Trotter on the 15th April 1936. He was the older brother to Michael and Patricia and attended Wallington Grammar School for Boys. Much of his younger life was spent in Mitcham.

John served in the RAF for three years in Hong Kong; when returned to the UK he joined Decca where he met and fell in love with Josephine. His career took him to Engelhard where he became a Special Metal Inventory Controller. Following retirement from Engelhard in 1995 John continued to work in the precious metals business as an independent consultant until his early 80's.

John married Josephine Anne Brisby on the 17th September 1960 at St Mary The Virgin Cuddington. They settled firstly in Ewell, then Tolworth and then spent more than fifty very happy years in Pams Way Ewell, firstly at number 81 and then number 21. John and Jo had two daughters, Judith Anne who was born on 25th October 1962 and Alison Helen who was born on 20th March 1966.

John shared with Jo a love of travel and many happy family holidays were spent in Menorca with their close friends, Pauline and Tony Johnson and their sons Richard and Simon. After Judith and Alison had grown and left home, John and Jo continued to travel the world and visiting Australia, the Middle and Far East, Japan, Europe and the USA. During those travels they travelled to Hong Kong where John was able to take a stroll down memory lane as they visited the places he had seen during his RAF service.

As well as a love of history, reading and classical music John enjoyed walking, gardening and was an active member of Epsom Probus. He was an adored and adoring grandfather to Elizabeth, Benedict, Andrew, Belinda and Nicola and a much loved father-in-law to Simon and Barry.

After a lifetime of good health, John was diagnosed with a rare blood condition, Polycythemia Vera. He continued to have reasonable health until the early summer of this year when the blood condition sadly transformed into an aggressive form of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. After being admitted to Epsom General Hospital at the end of August with double pneumonia John sadly struggled to recover.

As was his wish John passed away peacefully during the early morning hours on the 7th October 2019 at the Royal Marsden Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife Jo and his daughters Judith and Alison.

I had the great pleasure of meeting my Uncle John when he and Aunty Jo visited Australia twice. We went out to lunches and dinners and enjoyed their company very much. My children Eric and Jessica both remember the 2nd visit well when they visited us at home. Uncle John was a lovely gentleman who I know will be very much missed. Till we meet again in heaven. God bless. Love Suze. XOXO

Richard JOHNSON donated £50 in memory of John

Josie and John were part of my life. When I was growing up, they, together with Judith and Alison, were for many years a central and critical part...for which I will be always grateful.

When I think of John, I think of laughter and his love for Josie and the girls.

He will be greatly missed by them and all that knew him.
