In loving memory of Sheila Gallagher who sadly passed away on 1st October 2019
Mum was born in Sheffield in 1930, the only child of Wilf and Harriet Ibbotson, Wilf was a 'Cutler' and a partner in a local firm.
Sheila attended a local primary school and later attended Hillsborough High school for girls.
On leaving school Sheila went into general nursing and qualified as an SRN, around this time she met her husband to be Tom Cutler, who was a patient at the time and fell in love.
Tom worked for Sheffield GPO and they settled down in Stannington, Sheffield, having three children, David, Jane and Jill.
Around 1960, Tom was transferred to the post office in Market Rasen and we lived on Willingham Road.
Mum took a part-time job, caring for the boarders at De-Aston school.
In 1967, at 42 years, Tom died and mum was left a widow aged 36 with three young children, this was an extremely sad and traumatic time.
In the time following Toms' death, mum worked for the Wool Growers in Market Rasen but left to take up a post after successful training, as a Dental Surgery Assistant at the clinic, then on King St later at the new clinic on Mill Rd.
She loved seeing all the children and was never happier than when accompanied by the dentist, they toured the local schools in the mobile surgery (which was a caravan).
During this period she met and married Frank Gallagher and spent many happy years until his death in November 2018.
Mum developed vascular dementia and Alzheimers around 2009 which steadily progressed until her recent death.
Home became The Poplars, Chapman Street and she was happy and mainly content until her death on Oct 1st 2019.
Mum loved music and was always singing, especially her favourite Frank Sinatra, she had many interests over the years including being a member of the local W.I., attending the local church, making lampshades, knitting, travelling, looking after her beloved dog Brandy and most of all her family.
She was a wonderfully caring, loving person, with a great sense of humour and we will miss her more than words can say.

Nanna, Thanks for looking after me and all the special memories and times we spent together from when I was born (that I can’t remember) to your last moments a few weeks ago.

Can remember showing me pooh sticks in the streams in Willingham woods.....the first day stamp covers.....introducing me to dock leaves to sort out stinging nettles.....trying to brush over when I asked what the words were when someone phoned in and swore at Five Star and why they were so ******* **** on Going Live Tv show 30yrs ago.....trips to Mablethorpe.....Sunday dinners with the best mash and Yorkshire’s feeding an army of lads.....£5 note in my birthday cards.....not getting angry when we were booting footballs near windows and greenhouse.....saying I could stay with you when mum threatened to send me to De Aston boarding school....seeing my and graduation and getting me a plush owl with mortar board.....to wacking me on the head with a ballon constantly and laughing your head off on your 89th birthday earlier this year.

You were truly a special Nanna who lived life full of kindness, caring for everyone and always showed love and understanding.

Thanks for having a big impact and influence on the way I have turned out and everything you did for me and others.

We will miss you so much but will be in our hearts forever. Sleep tight and sweet dreams Nanna.

All my love Mark xxx

I remember our trips to Market Rasen what must be 25 years go, spending time in the big field at the back of the house and going to the racecourse (I don't remember winning much). Rest in peace Nanna.

I have known Sheila, my mum-in-law, for close on 43 years. What a pleasure it has been to be part of such a loving and caring family. Sheila maintained her cheerful character and love of Old Blue Eyes music right up to the end. When visiting her in Poplars I never dared risk being shown up by taking her on in an arm wrestling challenge, as she kept her strength and vice like grip. Sheila will be sadly missed by all that have known her. XX

I have only known Nanna for a few years.
The first time I met her was when Mark and I went to visit her in the Poplars. She greeted us with a big smile on her face. We had a lovely time, laughing and singing together. She even tried to dance with me. I remember her strong hand when she held mine and pulling my hair when we were leaving. She was a very cheeky lady.
She reminded me of my grandmother who had a warm and caring personality and I always wanted to go back and spend more time with her. She might have not known who I was but I believe deep down she remembered and recognised me every time we visited her.

I think the hardest part of losing the parent, is not saying good bye, but rather learning to live without them. It’s a deepest sorrow a heart can know. I know they are watching and listening us from above, and they are always staying in our hearts.

Memories about Nanna always leave a smile on my face. She will be missed deeply.

Forever loved.

  • Although mum looks apprehensive she did, in fact, love having the owl on her arm. She didn't fear much at all.
