George was born in Deptford East London, the only boy of five siblings, Emmy, Minnie, Ivy and Beattie. On the outbreak of the war, George was evacuated to Wales aged 9 where he was placed into the care of a farming couple who quickly realised how useful and eager George was as a farm hand, and tried to keep him! He did return to his family aged 11 and lived through the bombings of London. It was at a youth club aged 15 that he met his to be lifelong bride "Do". Though called Alice everyone calls her Doreen. They were happily married for 67 years and George was devoted to her. They had two children, Michael and Janet.
George went into the RAF for his national service taking with him a talent for football which was soon spotted and he turned out for many a services team. In fact he was invited to stay on in the RAF on the strength of his footie skills. Prior to his call-up he had already impressed the scouts of Millwall FC who had signed him on for their reserves.
Working life saw George join Key Glass Works in Lewisham where George remained for over 20 years.
He was absolutely driven to make the most of his career and prospects and besides saving hard for their first property by working huge hours in overtime, George also enrolled in night school to better his chances of promotion. This duly followed and in later times the family moved to Swindon where he was the production manager for Deloro Stellite.
An opportunity was spotted to launch a medical implants company and so Corin was born with George one of the founders designing the tools for the implants to be fitted.
Anything sporty was an interest to George and he was good at all of it. Golf no exception. He was a member of Ogbourne Downs Golf Club for around 35 years and a past Club President and Seniors Captain.
He retired from Corin in his early 60's and purchased a family property in Spain. Spending time in Spain became a favourite past time, and they enjoyed many long holidays there right up until George reached the age of 85. By then his Dementia had taken hold and visits to Spain became impractical. But we know that they had many fond memories with friends a family both in the UK and in Spain.
George will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.

I worked with George for over 20 years at Deloro, Zimmer and Corin. Without George Corin would not have happened.
He was both my friend and my mentor.
I attach 2 photos of George at the Corin 10 year Anniversary and at his Retirement Presentation.

Uncle George will be very much missed, but the one thing we can never loose is the lovely memories we have of him. Memories that have stayed with me since I was a child. Much love from Hayleigh, Wes, Anna-Grace, Kaede, Luca and Jonah. xxxxxx

George was my hero. He was a great footballer and he had a half decent voice as well. I have a few lasting memories: he bought me my first pint - light and bitter – after football training when I was fifteen; I still have a clip of 35mm film of him running out on the pitch at the old Den, Millwall’s home ground, I remember him riding his motorbike with no hands on the handlebars as he was ‘testing out the steering’ and the most abiding is when we all went to Dorset when our kids were just babies along with Minnie, Beattie, Emmy and lots of other family members. We sat up late drinking and singing one night (I have the film of it which I sent to the family years ago) and George belted out Take Me Home, Country Roads. It was possibly the last time all the siblings were together. A really lovely evening. I always looked up to George. Yes, he was taller than me (not by much!) but he was always calm, assured and full of stories and reflections. He was also a great footballer and a great support to my mum and dad. A lovely man all round and a sad loss to us all.
