In loving memory of the late Roy Wells who sadly passed away on 17th March 2015.

Roy was a loving husband, Dad, Brother and a fun and magical Pop to all his grandchildren. He enjoyed life and took great pleasure in spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed many happy years as a drummer in the Deptford pipe band where he made many life long friends.

He will always be remembered with great love and affection.

Hi son,
Well what can I say we did it....we got through the day...I for one was dreading it. The morning was bad, lots of people ask me if I was ok, I just couldn't talk to anyone, so what with the tears and not talking they must think I'm a complete numpty ( I know I always have been) but then later I saw Joyce and your lovely girls, you must be so proud of them....I know I am, we had a good laugh and that made it a whole lot better. Anyway a year done all the firsts done, with any lick it will get a bit easier....hopefully.
Say hello to mum & dad tell them I love them and miss them all the time.

Miss you always
Love you forever

I come on here every day and have a little chat with you, so I thought I should write something... I had a dream about you the other night Mum and Dad were in it as well, it was a silly dream but I felt good when I woke up knowing you are together hopefully having a good old time.
I heard a song the other day but didn't know who it was by, I wanted so much to phone you like we used to do.
Miss you so much

Love you

Today was a very sad day for me, it was my birthday and the first time I haven't spent it with you. I usually have a family party but I just couldn't face it without you there, sitting in your usual chair at the end of the table in front of a wide opened window as you always said no matter what time of year it was my flat was always way too hot for you :)

Missing you

Love always

  • On St.Patrick's Day 2015, The Deptford Irish Pipe Band lost its leading drummer. Our bandmaster believed that drummers should not be seen and rarely heard and Roy excelled in both virtues. A member of the back rank for nearly 50 years there are few photographs of Roy in action (the above being a rare exception).. Like a good movie soundtrack, you never noticed his drumming until it was missing. The style of drumming he developed was complimentary to the melodies and never clashed with the tune. Unlike many drummers nowadays he would march upright, never crouching over his drum, never marching with a limp to steady his drum.He was a pleasure to play and march with. Our bandmaster regarded him as the best drummer he had ever played with. Roy was an exceptional musician! More than that he was an exceptional friend to the many who passed through our ranks over the years. We'll all miss him. Written on behalf of The Deptford Irish Pipe Band

  • Many will remember Roy and Joyce's wedding and the reception in the Brockley Jack afterwards. But few can remember going home. Certainly the end of the festivities were a blank to the six members of the Willis family who attended. For nearly 60 years, our two families always included the other in invitations to celebrate weddings, baptisms, birthdays, first communions, anniversaries and of course The New Year! These were lively events and Roy always added to the fun. More recently we've had a succession of funerals and Roy's concern for others would shine through. A friend like Roy is once in lifetime phenomenon and we were lucky enough to know him nearly all his life. He was kind, considerate, good humored and good natured, We never heard him put anyone down. He was a one off and we are still trying to come to terms with his passing. No more jokes; no more stories; no more the sparkling eyes with that smile. May God Bless him. The Willis Family

  • This was a fantastic day, and yes not many people remember afterwards. Roy was a good friend and I agree with every sentiment. I was lucky enough to have him as a brother and for that I am extremely grateful.
