In loving memory of Ted Morrey who sadly passed away on 10th September 2019 aged 72 years.
Ted was born in Barsley and had older twin siblings Peter and Elizabeth. Another sister Jean was born 7 years later. Ted excelled at school and was Captain of the school running team. He moved to London for college where he studied chemistry and biology and years later also graduated in physics.
Everyone who knew Ted knew him as a teacher but not many people knew that his first graduate job was working for Beechams as a flavour chemist. He worked on their fizzy drinks recipes and said that he knew his way around London by its toilets since he drank so much at work!
Ted met Liz at his 19th birthday party where he wooed her with his guitar playing; 54 years later they were still together. Sarah came along in 1975 closely followed by Paul in 1977. This in itself was a miracle since Ted had suffered from Hodgkin's disease and was only given 5 years to live in 1970 which incidentally was the year he married.
Ted was a man of many interests bikes, cars, photography and target shooting although there were probably more that I've forgotten. He always encouraged his family to participate in his hobbies which created a lot of fun outings along the way.
When Ted retired he had a new lease of life and his attentions turned elsewhere. His granddaughter Ellie had already been born but was later joined by Izzy and James (now 16, 11 and 8 respectively). He started walking and completed many of Britains pathways. When his health declined he became involved in more sedate activities. He rejuvenated the local Neighbourhood Watch group, became a member of the Residents Association and set up 3 U3A interest groups (in Vikings, Scandinavia and Calligraphy) as well as serving on their committee for a time.
It was only in the last couple of his months that he was no longer able to participate in these activities but still continued to enjoy visits from his numerous friends. We thank you all for the love and support that was given to Ted.
