It is with great sadness and loss to say that whilst on holiday with a friend in Almerimar, Spain, Nigel sadly passed away on Monday 2nd September after suffering a heart attack.

Nigel’s funeral will take place at 10:30 on Friday 27th of September at Exeter Crematorium in the St Peter's Chapel.

Nigel loved life and would like to see people attending wearing a sea of colour to celebrate his life. There will be a wake at the Topsham Brewery & Taproom (next to Rockfish), Maclaines Warehouse, 1 Haven Road, Exeter EX2 8GR after the service. We would love to see as many of you as possible to share our memories together. If you could let us know you are attending that would greatly help with the planning of the funeral and wake.

Rather than flowers, Nigel would’ve liked donations to go to Diabetes UK as he was a diabetic for over 50 years. Alternatively, donations to Coeliac UK would be appreciated as his Grandson Joseph is Coeliac. Therefore, there will only be family flowers.

Please share this as appropriate.

I first met Nigel in 1966 I think. We spent time in each other’s company at the beginning and end of every day, 6 days a week travelling to and from school. I remember a kind face with a ready smile who enjoyed life. I left Hardye’s in 1969 and it wasn’t until 2 months ago that we met up again. Of all of us I think Nigel had changed the least and I certainly would have recognised him if we’d met in the street. Towards the end of the evening of our reunion we spent an hour together chatting catching up and finding out we had a lot in common. It was a pleasure to meet him again. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. The world was a richer place for his presence. Once again, my condolences.

One of my oldest dearest friends, wonderful memories made at school, by the sea, at Icen Road and Bedford House in Weymouth I always considered Nigel to be a brother and Tim and I were so lucky to have seen him in Spain just two days before he died. Memories never die. Condolences to the family and all affected by the loss of Nigel. Much love Hilary and Tim x

My son Keith gave me the message. It came as a shock not having seen Nigel for several years. He was chair of Branch FSB when I was secretary, I never knew he was Diabetic as I am now at 74 with type two.
God Bless.

I had known Nigel since we were 11 years old & we have maintained our friendship ever since despite my living in Australia for many years. I was fortunate to have had dinner with Nigel twice during my recent trip home to England. He was a good friend & I shall miss him deeply

We were I think 15 when Nigel was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Despite this he lived his life to the full & was a wonderful friend.
