Gary Johns beloved husband to Melinda and devoted father and grandfather has passed away at the age of 59 on Sunday 11th august at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. Fun loving and outgoing he lived his life to the fullest, born 6th April 1960 his life began in Market Deeping. Having lived there most of his life he leaves behind many friends, family and work colleagues. His infectious smile and laughter lit up the room, he made everyone laugh with his love of 'Dad Jokes' and witty humour. He was a proud family man who worked hard all of his life and loved his snooker, golf, holidays, outrageous shirts and of course, playing piano. His funeral will be held on Wednesday 28th August at 11.30am at Trent Valley Crematorium followed by a celebration of his life at Spondon Liberal Club ("The Cluuuuuub"). Due to Gary's vibrant personality we kindly request that people wear floral or patterned colourful shirts and dresses. He loved colour and being the centre of attention so we feel that he would appreciate this gesture.

Gary, I can’t believe that I’m writing this. How I remember saying to you “You’re going to make a lot of new friends sitting here!!” when I took you on at Thomas Cook in your first IT role!! Seems like yesterday, but I have no doubt that you are making loads of new friends where you are now, just as you always did.

I have such fond memories of the meals out and barn dances (including the one where I accidentally gave you a black eye!!) that we used to have with Mel and Lou and I am so proud that you were the best man at mine and Lou’s wedding.

Although we haven’t been as close recently you have never been far from my thoughts and will always and forever be in my heart.

With all our love forever, Chris and Lou xxx

I still can’t believe what’s happened, Gary was the funniest, caring guy you could meet. He loved his family and friends and we all loved hearing what you had all been up to. He always had time for people and could always make me laugh, even when I didn’t feel like laughing. I am so sorry for your loss Mel and family, what a guy xxx

We are so so sorry to hear of the loss of Gary. He was the most warm hearted, outrageous, funny guy I have ever known. Having first met him at Thomas Cook too many years ago and then worked with him at Balfour Beatty I have so many memories of him especially during our Friday afternoon drinks at the Beehive.

Our thoughts and love go to Mel and all his family and although we can't be with you on Wednesday, we truly hope the day is full of laughter and joy as well as tears. Heaven is a better place now.

I still cant seem to find the words to express how much I am going to miss you. In the sad and the hard times your cuddles are the ones that make it that little bit easier. I promise to talk about you all the time to Thomas. I love you so much Daddy xxxxx

I’m not saying goodbye to a little brother who was more of a big brother to me. You always supported me and my family. Eighteen years ago you were by my side as a witness at my wedding when I made Mick the happiest man in the world. Even though you moved away from me(!) we were always there for each other. I miss hearing your infectious laugh - I will always miss you. I love you my little big brother xxx

Well Gazza, it was a sad day in my life when we all sat around you after the long fight you had to stay with us ended. I will never forget the times we spent together and all the fancy dress parties and of course karaoke nights round yours with Mel hogging the microphone. I will miss you always as I was your favourite brother-in-law. Cheers mate. Mick

They were so so lucky to have a husband and father like you! And so lucky to have each other at this sad time to support each other. Gary was a generous, well-loved man with a good moral compass. He nurtured, nourished and maintained his family with a dedicated and loving whole-heartedness. His humour and wit were likely to set the table roaring with laughter. He was an amiable man who could put people at ease and he made new friends easily. He was a loyal friend and partner. Overall he was a thoroughly good chap. It has been a honour to know him.
