Robert was incredibly active to the last moment, and we are amazed that he has fitted in so much into his life. He loved people and was active with the Red Cross and Girlguiding, volunteering alongside his wife for many years. He loved playing Bridge and was very good at it, as he had been at Chess in his early years. His Heron dinghy gave him much pleasure Sunday afternoon racing at Chipstead Sailing Club, and he was membership secretary followed by being treasurer for some years to the Heron Association and for ten years was treasurer at Chipstead. He was presented with an award from the RYA by Princess Ann for services to sailing in 2013. He loved sport generally all his life, active in rugby when young and supporting Crystal Palace from the terraces. He was treasurer for Diabetes UK (Croydon) and actively worked to improve the care in Croydon, and awareness for people of all ethnicities. He had so many interests it is almost impossible to cover them all, but it is clear he cared, and he made a difference. He cared passionately about his family, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and for him their existence made his life worth living. He will be much missed.
