Nice neighbours in Bruggen, shared lovely curries
Geoffrey Dunkley (19 Aug 1951 - 2 Jul 2019)
In celebration of the life of Geoffrey Dunkley who sadly passed away on 2nd July 2019.
Geoff as he was known by family and friends was born 19th August 1951 to parents Ron and Molly. He followed in his fathers footsteps and joined the RAF as an Airframe Technician, beginning his apprenticeship training at RAF Halton, where he later met his wife to be, Anne Marie Smith whom he married in 1971.
He was initially stationed at RAF Waddington working as an Airframe Technician on the iconic Vulcan. Their first son, Sean was born during that posting and Karl followed shortly after Geoff took the family over to Germany for his first tour of RAF Brüggen working on the Jaguar.
The family moved back to the UK and RAF Marham where he continued his career on the Canberra prior to the aircraft moving to RAF Wyton in the early 80’s. It was shortly after that Geoff and Anne found their first home that they could call their own in Sawtry where they settled for a short period before heading back out to RAF Brüggen for three years on the Tornado.
The family returned to Sawtry in 1988 but soon moved to Stanground the following year where they have remained for nearly 30 years.
Geoff opted to leave the RAF in 1995 having dedicated 26 years to the service - there is no doubt that they were the best years of his life. He took an opportunity with the Civil Service that kept him stationed at RAF Wyton until he took early retirement to dedicate his time to become Anne’s full time carer.
Geoff was a fun loving individual who loved spending time with friends and family. He thoroughly enjoyed evenings playing cards, his beer, curries and barbecues.
Please share your memories and photos as the family would love to see them.
