Bev Savage, born 1949. An out-going, happy-go-lucky man, risk taker with a generous soul. A keen cricketer in his earlier years and a family man, he enjoyed living life to the full. Life wasn't always easy for Bev, a car accident where he suffered a devastating head-injury changed his life at 40 but he remained true to his personality and always had a joke not far from his lips, a big smile on his face and a belly laugh.

Bev sadly died on 27th June 2019 after many health battles, bravely fought and usually conquered. Join us on the 23rd July at 11.30, Gedling Crematorium, to celebrate the life of a true legend, the strongest man we have ever known, and a brilliant Father, Grandfather and Husband.

No floral tributes please, he was never a big lover of flowers. And, unless black truly is your favourite colour, we'd prefer it if you wore something light and bright.

Sending love, hugs and deepest sympathy to you all. Bev was such a lovely man, and although haven’t seen each other so much in recent years, have great memories of all the times we spent together and how he and you all made me feel part of the family for all those holidays, swimming clubs, ballet lessons, hanging out at cricket...

He was always very kind and funny - and gently took the mick and put people at their ease - before and after the accident. Especially remember sometimes ‘going swimming’ (which actually meant going to the pub and putting our swimmers under the tap so it looked liked we’d been), singing along to The Eagles in the car, indulging me and Clare watching Queen videos over and over when on holiday, giving us £1 to swim a length under water, and ferrying us around to (actual) swimming, ballet and parties etc.

To me he seemed to do an amazing job of balancing the frustration about the changes in his life after the accident, with wry acceptance - and kept his on-point sense of humour, despite (or maybe because of) all the challenges.

Will be massively missed, and hope I can take on board some his life lessons – about strength, acceptance, humour and generosity.

Lots of love, Becky xx (or Bexwa as he used to call me!)

  • Thanks for such a lovely message Bex. I was literally just saying the other day how he never called anyone by their real name before or after his accident and had nick names for everyone. Bexwa has just made me smile!!

  • Bexwa made me smile too, as did the running the swimming costumes under the tap 😁

  • Well there are always some things you never know about your husband, but wasn’t surprised and made me 😆

  • Grandad and his three sleeping grandchildren! Grandad, Jack and Rubes were well co-ordinated though. Clearly Mon didn't get the memo! 😍
