I was a student of Auntie Edna in Fall 1992. I spent my first term of pre-school at Jolly Tots. I had just turned 2 years old at the end of August and I started that September. With the exception of my mother and my Auntie Judy, Auntie Edna was my very first teacher and the start of my formal education. Almost 30 years later, I still have wonderful, fond memories of Auntie Edna and I often wondered what became of her. She was very encouraging and I was very happy at her school. She was an excellent teacher. I was only there for one term but it clearly left a lasting impact. The school work we did was intellectually stimulating. She very quickly realised that I had already mastered the alphabet and so she introduced me to phonics and I started learning to read while under her care. It didn't matter to her what age I was, she would write 2 or 3 letter words on a board and she would get so excited when I sounded them out and read them correctly. Unfortunately due to an asbestos discovery at the pre-school my mother moved me to sunnyside primary school in January 1993 and my kindergarten teacher there was a nightmare:/. No more reading, no more careful attention,no more encouragement, it was like I had regressed. Eventually when the kindergarten teacher got tired of me always trying to answer the questions that she asked the class, she ignored me completely. I was so unhappy, it was the opposite of how I was treated at Jolly Tots. Anyway, I just wanted to say that Auntie Edna was a wonderful person, she will live on in my memory and I credit her with helping me to get started on my academic journey.

In loving memory of Edna Royer who sadly passed away on 25th June 2019 aged 78 years.
Edna grew up in the North of England on Walney Island, the youngest of five siblings. In Manchester, she met her husband Lawrence and eventually they returned to his home in Antigua with their first child, Caroline. Later Edna had another daughter, A-J. Her 3 grandchildren, Kelsey, Cameron and Morgan made her very proud.
At one time she was a hairdresser and did mobile hairdressing in Antigua. Later in life, after her children were grown, she retrained and opened a Pre-School. She ran her small school, Jolly Tots for over 20 years not retiring until in her 70s.
After her husband passed away 11 years ago, Edna developed new interests and furthered old hobbies. She was into her art, took up yoga and zumba. Edna led an active social life, going to the movies with friends and meeting up for the beach lime at the weekend. She also volunteered her time helping with reading at a local primary school.
She was well loved by her many friends and family all over the world and will be greatly missed.
Edna loved her bright colours so please no black if you attend! Let us wear our colourful clothes and remember her zest for life rather than mourn her passing. She would be the first one to try and get everyone smiling.
Also we would prefer to say no flowers but if you wanted to give something there are links on here to donate to St Catherine's Hospice and Marie Curie who helped look after Edna at the end.
