John was Born 9th June 1938 in Southampton and enjoyed a great childhood with his siblings Mike, Peter and Susan. On leaving school he attended Sea Training school at Sharpness starting on 31st January 1955 and completed his training on 11th March 1955. On completion of his sea training he joined the Merchant Navy on 12th March 1955
as a steward and served until 1961.
Between 1961 and 1972 John joined Vosper Thorneycroft as a shipwright as an apprentice under the watchful eye of Benson. In 1972 John left Vosper Thorneycroft and joined Southampton Docks as a Steveadore and later qualified to work in the container terminal. John left the docks on 1987.
For the next 10 years john was a caretaker at Bellemoor School where he was well liked and hugely respected, only retiring as he had reached 65 years old in 2003.
Throughout his life John had a love of motorbikes, being well known for his numerous Nortons. He was renowned for his pristine gardens and especially his lawn ! His car was always immaculate and he would always Chamois it down before going anywhere - much to the frustration of his family. For some reason he was a lifelong Manchester United fan, something else his family never understood !
John leaves behind Janet his wife of 56 years and his 2 sons Mike and Steven, and six Grandchildren - Mirrin, Jura, Jasmine, Harry, Ben and John. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. His was a life of travel, holidays, fun and families. Rest in Peace John your duty is done.
