Jan Wright - a celebration of life

Jan and I never followed any religion but both of us have desired something other than the traditional cremation service production line.

For some years we have occasionally mentioned wanting a more natural approach. As time was passing and Jan was having no more treatment, we needed to sketch out what next. Just over 3 weeks before Jan’s death, we went to see a woodland site for a burial nook. We met Simon, the owner, who started the place to provide somewhere that was in keeping for his fathers ashes, together with Taz a wood craftsman. Jan & I were overjoyed with the place, the people and the ethos. We are now the proud leaseholders of our little area for 200 years, when it will be returned to the woodland trust.

The whole celebration starts at 30 Cornwall Avenue, Beeston, NG9 1NL at 11:00 am on the 5th July. There will be a double decker London bus to transport people to a pub near the woodland site. The bus will have Jan’s music through the ages and a photographic display of her life and fun attitude, hopefully with some erudite banter.

On arrival at the pub car park there will be a smaller shuttle bus to transport the short distance to the woodland, down a farm track. This bus will make as many journeys as necessary to transport the attendees. When the party is complete, the hearse will arrive and the service will start. This will be accompanied by music chosen by Jan, augmented by some key music she liked. At the end of the celebration we will return to the pub for a buffet and refreshments, before boarding the bus to return.

Rules (with apologies to Monty Python)
1. absolutely no flowers!
2. only bright coloured casual dress, recommend reasonably stout footwear, we will be in a
wood.
3. absolutely no flowers!
4. this is about celebration of a life that has touched many, not a mourning.
5. all these plans were put in place by Jan & I during the last few weeks.
6. absolutely no flowers!
7. have fun, remember the great times, there will be obviously be tears of emotion.
8. rose petals and other fun projectiles with be provided.

Anybody wishing to shorten their visit to Jan’s event, can arrive at the pub, park, go on the shuttle bus, then when over return to their car. The shuttle bus will run from 12:30pm.

The pub is the Blue Stoops, 20 Matlock Road, Walton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, S40 3JQ
The service will probably last about 1 to 1.5 hours, including toasts and shuttle transportation.
All are welcome, the bus can hold 72 people. If you intend to come please RSVP with numbers of people.
