In loving memory of Derek Cyril YATES who sadly passed away on 29th May 2019 aged 78 years.
Derek was a dearly loving husband to June and father to Susan.
Derek Cyril Yates was born on the 29th July 1940 in Radford, Coventry to Cyril and Zena Yates. Derek spent a lot of his early years in Barnsley, which was his second home, with his Auntie Mary and Uncle Percy. He spent a lot of time with his cousin, Brian, who he considered his brother. His parents moved to Rugby and Derek worked at Barbers where he met his beloved wife, June. Derek was 17 and June was 15. They also met their good friends, Ros and Barry, and have remained friends ever since.
On the 9th January 1960 June and Derek married. It would have been their 60th wedding anniversary next year and Derek’s 80th Birthday. They spent their early years living with June’s Mum and Dad, Herbert and Bertha, at their family home in Coventry. Derek became great friends with his Brother-in-Law, John and Tony, and Sister-in-Law, Mary and Carol.
Four years later they moved to their own home in Stoke, Coventry and had a daughter, Susan Jayne. Derek worked at the Morris where he was a fitter for several years and later moved to MH Spencer where he worked with his Sister-In-Law, Mary.
Derek retired from Spencer’s and lived a happy life with June, enjoying many happy holidays on the Isle of Wight where they met their dear friends Paul, Brenda, Darren and Rob. 12 years ago Derek had to go onto kidney dialysis at the UHCW. He became great friends with the staff and patients and their families. They loved Derek and it was to be that he would end his days there.
So popular was Derek that the hospital ensured he remained on the Renal Ward until the end. The staff and patients were regular visitors to see Derek which gave great comfort to June and Susan at the end.
Derek always had a laugh and a joke, even during his intensive treatment, especially with his friends Dominique and Ben. This is how he will forever be remembered.
We will all miss you Derek and you will forever be in our thoughts.
