In loving memory of Mary Frances Gurr who sadly passed away on 15th May 2019 after a long battle with dementia and spinal stenosis. Mary was born in Lincolnshire on 15 September 1928 and was in her 91st year.

Mary was the beloved wife of Dennis for over 70 years. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Jack and Annie Sanderson and her sister Mag. She was mother to Lynda (Roger) and Jeff and grandmother to six, Richard, Helen, Kelly, Jody, David and Emily. Sadly, Mary was predeceased by her granddaughter Helen. While Mary’s two children and grandchildren all live in Canada this did not stop her from having a relationship with them all. Over the years she visited many, many times and her grandchildren have very fond memories of her. Mary also had nine Great Grandchildren, in no particular order, Ryan, Maia, Sarah, Evan, Rylan, Ben, Kyla, Owen and Norah. She was blessed to meet them all with the exception of Ben and Norah. Mary was also a favourite Auntie to Denise, Di and Ian, and Great Auntie to many.

Her grandchildren have shared various memories of her over the years from teaching them to knit (not always successfully) to being the queen of French braids, to teaching the love of reading books. They all remember her as someone who was interested in knowing them all on a deeply loving level.

For many years Mary worked at Chilprufe, a knitting factory close to home where she made many friends, Doreen in particular, and remembered many happy times. Mary and Doreen took many holidays together over the years and have remained closed.

Mary was also a Christian woman and made her church home at Abbots Road United Reform Church where her Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, 28 May at 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon. The service will be followed by refreshments and all friends and family are invited to attend the service and stay to share memories of Mary after the service. There will be a private Committal service late this week.

Please, in lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to your favourite charity in Mary’s name. In particular donations to Abbots Road Church or to an organization that supports dementia patients would be greatly appreciated.
