In loving memory of Michael Frederick Thorpe who sadly passed away on 7th March 2019. Born to Eric and Lilly Thorpe on the 19th November 1940, with one brother and three sisters. Michael was loving, kind, and generous, with a warm happy infectious personality. He had been happily married to his late wife Mary Thorpe for well over fifty years, and between them they had three sons Timothy, Ian and Nicholas, daughter in laws Alicia, Kathy and Tracey, with eight grandchildren and great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces, and great nephews and great nieces, which if able he kept in contact with and met up with whenever possible, all of whom he was very proud, to the extent he had most of the walls in his house covered with their photographs. He was also surrounded by an ever growing community of friends and neighbors. Anyone privileged enough to have met our father will know what sorrow and loss that his sudden passing has caused, and will undoubtedly leave a hole in all of our hearts. He will now be reunited in heaven with his wife, son, parents, brother and sisters, daughter in law and friends he has lost over the years, your memory will live on within us all, sleep well Dad we love you xxxx

Dear Mike, thank you for being such a wonderful friend and neighbour for so many years. With your sense of fun and mischief, as well as kindness and understanding, you touched the lives of so many.
Over the last few years especially, we have "chewed the cud" like a couple of old codgers, often over a cup of tea or coffee, put the "world to rights" and laughed at the madness of everyday modern life, despite the fact that we have loved every minute of it. You told me many times that if you could've had your life over again, you wouldn't change a thing. As you have said, surely goodness and mercy have followed you all of your days. We have been blessed to have known you.
You have been a "mighty good man", a loving and devoted husband and father, a best friend to many and a fine example to us all; you will be deeply missed. Rest in peace or "rock on", Mike - "it's what you want it to be", mate.

Michael you were a breath of fresh air each time you came into the surgery. Always a smile on your face and usually pulling my leg about one thing or another. And always a patient patient! I feel honoured to have known you and will really miss seeing you (and your shorts!). Deryn x

Goodbye Mike, I'm already missing our late night phone calls when we put the world to rights and had a private moan about our aches and pains. You know how much we loved you and I know we will be seeing you again in the near future. Hugs and kisses. Xxx

We started out as neighbours but ended up as so much more I regard you as my adopted family being so far away from my own. You welcomed me into your home and introduced me to your wonderful family and friends. I will never forget the first time we stopped and chatted some two hours later we finally stopped...after a lot of laughter. We both shared a love of photographs and I remember spending quite a bit of time (hours!) going through all your photos which was fantastic. Home just doesn’t feel like home not seeing you out in the garden now the suns out...we are going to miss you so much but know you will be with Mary and know how much you loved and missed her.

Thank you for being the best neighbour we could ever ask for and more than that being our friend whose going to tease me about getting older now!

Love you and rest in peace all our love Sam, Steve, Claudia and Smokey x

I cannot believe you are no longer with us Mike but you are now reunited with your beloved Mary. I have always been regarded as part of the family and was always made to feel welcome at all the family gatherings, card games, buffets and dinners to name but a few.
What will be missing on my birthday will be that card with the funny message inside, but knowing how organised you were that could already been written.
All that remains for me to say is what a privilege it has been to have had a most kind, funny, generous gentleman in my life, but you will not be forgotten nor Mary.
Rest in peace.

I remember when I first met you and Mary, you made me feel welcome in your home, and very quickly into your lives. I didn't just marry into your family, you always made me feel part of it. Because of your sense of humour we always shared a laugh, whenever together, especially at birthdays and Christmas with funny cards, but that was just how we were. I will be eternally grateful to you and Mary the way you loved and treat our two sons, and I know how proud you were to see the men they grew into from the babies you help us welcome into the world with champagne all those years ago. I know how much you have missed Mary since her passing, and the only comfort I take from your passing is that you will be re-united with her now. You were a very kind and generous man, father in-law and grand father, and you will be greatly missed by everyone who knew you, and will forever be in our hearts xxxx
