In loving memory of Karen Reed who sadly passed away on 2nd February 2019

Karen was born 06.06.61 and would often joke that she was the devil child (6.6.6). Her parents were William and Elizabeth Blake, sister to older brothers Michael and Stephen and younger sister Lisa. Karen had a tough start born prematurely she was a fighter from the very start. My nan would often recount stories of my mums childhood - from cutting off ponytails to having to have her dad walk her to school because of the big dog.
My Uncle Michael (affectionately known as Mimal) recalls when Karen contracted yellow jaundice and was quarantined to bed, her nan requested the song 'raindrops keep falling on my head' for her on the radio, he remembers almost passing out with excitement and envy when he heard her name on the radio, he thinks of her every time he hears that song.
Karen met Gary in the 80's and began a family starting with me in 1987, followed by Matthew, Samantha, Anthony and Natalie. How blessed we were to have such amazing, hardworking, loving parents. How many times in our childhood did we hear: 'No Romping in the house' or 'You're either in or you're out!!' as we grew up we teased mum so hard about that - of course we are either in or we are out … duh! Karen fitted all the roles you could possibly need in a mum, from friend to disciplinarian. Natalie always remembers the time we all got grounded and sent to bed but she was the only one who went, we all liked to push the boundaries, poor old Natalie hours later asking if she was allowed to get up. We all have amazing memories from our childhood, too many to fit in here, but I'm sure we would all agree that not one of us would change a thing.
Gary and Karen's relationship to me was so special and something I can only hope to be lucky enough to experience. They both would describe the other as best friend and soulmate, few will ever be lucky enough to find what they did. Gary would get up every morning before work and make mum a tea, then prepare a second in the kitchen - god, that woman loved her tea!! Though he is a man of few words Kadge knew how much Gadge loved her. Every Christmas he would buy her Jewellery, her favourite thing, but not before checking it was the right thing... very picky was our mum!
Two years ago our family was blessed with Sienna and Karen could not have been happier, her smile would light up any room and it was always nanny she would look for. Matts fondest memory is the heartbeat teddy he had made at their 4D scan and the moment Karen heard it the tears didn't stop, literally, they had to pry it from her hands, from the moment she heard that little girls heartbeat she fell completely in love. Then she saw her....and that was where the canvas obsession begins.
When Sammy became pregnant she took Karen along for the scans and made her life when she invited mum in for the birth, Sammy recalls the first scan, when the ultrasound showed the baby all she heard from the corner was sobs of happiness. Sheldon came along in August and although she swore she wasn't going down the 'business end' Karen watched him come into the world. Sammy recounts that after her, Nanny wine was the first person Sheldon truly smiled for though that draws second as Sammy's favourite memory is when nanny changed Sheldon on her lap and he projectile pooed across the whole room, if only I could show you the video, it was EVERYWHERE!! Though that didn't stop mum she was always up to clean the pooey nappies!!
From the moment she became a nanny she devoted herself to the role, stopping to pick out toys and outfits every opportunity. If she had, had it her way every wall in the house would be filled with canvas' of her beautiful grandchildren.
Now, Karen had a lot of loves in her life, her holidays cannot be glossed over - she would not pass up an opportunity to travel - well give her an All Inclusive and even better if it was 4* Plus, A week in the sun at least twice a year was not much to ask! I was blessed to have travelled with mum with family and just the 2 of us and I can tell you she loved nothing more than putting her feet up on a sunbed with a good book and a cocktail or 2 or 3 or... well I could go on. As long as the sun was there she would be happy though we all stuck to her rule of never visiting the same place twice. Mum and I have had some fantastic holidays and I couldn't possibly choose a favourite and I know she couldn't either. We never stopped making memories.
Karen always had pets (Whether she wanted them or not) from escapee hamsters to fish to birds to rabbits to dogs. I'm sure we all have different memories of all these but one thing I think we can agree on is her love for John John, I brought John Terrier in 2005 for the 'family' but as with all our pets the responsibility fell to mum, but she didn't mind - or she did and just never told us (typical mum). He became her companion, annoying her but still she loved that ball of fluff and when Anthony brought her Ramierez in 2014 her eyes lit up with delight - Kevin, Marmite, Rmplestiltskin and Ramierez he was a dog of many names but often called Rumps, a name he lives up to, poor mum none of her teddy's were safe!!
I know there is so many memories missed and so many laughs not shared but there is only so much space, Karen's life ended far too soon and those of us left behind feel the loss heavily. Anyone who knew her was blessed and I can only hope that you will share those Memories with us because we love to hear what a special person she was to everyone.

It still doesnt seem real that you are not here with us and i dont think it has really sunk in yet. You truely were a character and such a funny woman. I have many fond memories of you, a lot from my time as a child, but the best ones i have are from most recent years. Most of my funniest memories are of you on some sort of ride, which you claimed to hate. Like the time me and Anthony took you on the ride where we sat opposite you in the little glass car things. We spent the whole ride unable to breathe and crying because we was laughing so much at you. Or the time we convinced you in Blackpool to ride on the horse race ride with us all. I will never forget your face when you came off the ride, hair all over the place and going mad because your sunglasses had fallen off somewhere on the ride and your horse lost the race.
You really were a wonderful person and taken far too soon. RIP auntie Karen xx

I have known Karen since 1984 when she served me in her parent’s shop on the Worsley and then meeting at the community centre. Anthony and Gary were already firm friends, and Karen and I got on very well. At the time Gary and Karen were lodging at Mrs Mac’s and we had such laughs; lots of sleep overs and Sunday roasts which continued at Sturdy Close when Becky was born followed by Mathew, Sammy, Anthony and Natalie.
My family have such lovely memories of Karen, lots of wonderful happy times together with the children throughout the years.
I would add that it takes an exceptional person to have five fantastic children and Becky, Matthew, Sammy, Anthony and Natalie have all grown up to be.
You really were that friend Karen who we knew would help us in times of need, forever in our thoughts and lots of love Anthony, Cathy, Emily, Alexandra and Jennifer.

Its with real sadness that I write this, I still can’t quite believe you have gone and we are going to miss you so very much.
We have so many great memories especially our holidays and camping trips to Wittering. My favourite memory is sitting on the beach with you and Bex in Ibiza. We would be there all day soaking up the sun leaving the men to look after the children! Then they would come and sit on our sunbeds so that we could go and have lunch bless them.
You have been a true friend in every sense of the word, from helping me find work, coming to A&E with me and so much more.
You took great care of T&J so that I could go to work and they loved coming to your house for the day. You would worry about Jade eating like a little sparrow and always make sure you had her favourites for lunch, she would still be there sitting with you eating long after all the others had gone off to play!
It was your house Terry came to after a big bust up with his dad as he knew you would welcome him in which you did and Gary came to ours to smooth things over.
Until we meet again my friend, so much love in my heart for you
