My mum has spoken to the funeral director this morning and I am so proud to say that £1080 has been donated by family and friends in my dads name. This will go to "Brighter Futures" at the Great Western Hospital to help local people in the town where dad spend his life living and working in the public service. My family and I are overwhelmed by this generosity and thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts ♥️

In loving memory of Peter Leslie Waylen who sadly passed away on 29th January 2019
Pete was born in the village of Keevil, Wiltshire. The third child of Len and Vera Waylen. He was one of five children. At school Pete excelled in sports, particularly football and athletics, smashing some school records. Pete became a police cadet and after his national service he joined the police force in Calne and Chippenham, where he met Margaret Joan (Maggie). He would often pick her up after football, sweaty, battered and bruised, but she was smitten anyway.
Pete and Maggie were married in 1960 and lived in Chippenham. They later moved to Codford with their baby daughter where Pete became the village policeman. Their second baby girl was born in the police house.
After Codford, the family moved to Swindon where they lived in a police house in Cranmore Avenue, eventually moving to Nythe in 1972.
Pete retired from the police force in his late 40s and became the coroners officer for Swindon for the next 14 years.
Peter had two great passions in his life. Margaret Joan and football.
Pete loved all sport but football was his absolute favourite. In his youth he had been a semi professional football player for Chippenham Town and played for Wiltshire and England Police. He was a Swindon Town Supporter.
In later life Pete became a grandad and took great joy in seeing his three beloved grandchildren grow to adulthood.
Pete fought a long and brave battle against cancer in the last few years of his life but remained strong until the end.
Pete was a gentle giant with a massive heart who leaves behind the legacy of a loving family and many happy memories. Rest in peace Peter.
