A valued colleague, a gentleman and a person of great integrity - as well as talented wit.

It was a pleasure for all of us to work with Alan for the the channel tunnel and then meet him at the Tunnel Engineering meetings. He was so clever, and had such a sense of humour. He always found the words to describe the most difficult situations with humour and put things into perspectives. We miss him.

We have fond memories of Alan and his family both at Woodcote and the 25th Purley Scouts. We send our condolences to Lynne, Marcus and Tom at this sad time.

Alan was a true gentleman, dear neighbour and friend who would make time to share a joke on the topic of the day when we would meet in the street or over the garden fence. He had a philosophical sense of humour and was full of charm, a charismatic fellow. It was a great pleasure to know Alan and he will be greatly missed.

Alan, I always enjoyed working alongside you. You were always able to find the humour in every situation.
