In loving memory of Derek Ross Barton who sadly passed away on 14th January 2019.
Born on the 19th Jan 1937 in Abbey Wood to Ivy and Charles Barton, he became the younger brother to Terry.
It was with Terry and through his (limited) time at Brook Street school that Derek formed a large group of friends, many of whom he remained close to throughout his life.
After completing National service Derek was pursuing a career as a mechanic when he met Rita Polden. Derek married Rita on 19th October 1963 and they enjoyed many very happy years together until Rita sadly passed away on 4th October 2018. He had three children, Susan, Michele and Mark who love him dearly.
Derek moved to Slade Green in the 60's, making a number of new strong friendships including forming a popular mobile DJ duo with Roger, his next door neighbour. Although Derek and Rita remained in the same house for over 50 years, the number of walls being continually knocked down and rebuilt made it seem like a new home every few years. Derek had too many talents to list but he will be especially remembered for his artistic slant, creating beautiful creations on any surface; walls, ceilings, family cars, his green fingers and his extended vocabulary after the odd glass of red or a gin fizz.
After retiring Derek took up golf and, along with Rita, fully embraced a number of activities including bowls, table tennis and snooker. Travel was also a large part of Derek and Rita's life, enjoying numerous memorable trips with family and friends.
Derek has 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. Thankfully we all have wonderful memories of a wonderful, fun loving and intelligent man.
