The funeral service will take place at 10:00 on Friday the 25th of January at the Medway Crematorium, Robin Hood Lane, Blue Bell Hill, Chatham, ME5 9QU. Following the service, a Wake will take place at Rainham Mark Social Club, 56 London Road, Rainham, ME8 6YX. All are welcome. Born to John & Ivy Young in Northern Ireland, he was the second eldest of 8 siblings: Ernie, Bobby, Lily, Charlie, Ivy, Joe and Colin.

Joined Royal Navy as an acting Cook and served for 12 years progressing to Petty Officer Cook. During his time, he served on HMS Minerva, Artifex and Loch Killisport and in HMS Caledonia, Neptune, Malabar (Bermuda) and several times at HMS Pembroke, when he first met Madeleine in 1949, who was to come his beloved “Maddie” for the next 67 years.

Married Madeleine Esther Rozalla at the Church of Our Lady, Gillingham, Kent.

Became a Dad with the birth of son Barry and again to Brian and Stephen.

Left the Royal Navy and had a variety of arduous jobs working in a Bakery, a Factory (CAV) and then as a Bus Conductor, before eventually settling into Furniture Retail, where he excelled and quickly became a store manager. His natural charm with customers and no nonsense approach in management was recognised by his employer, Cavendish Woodhouse, who deployed him to turn-around problem stores in the Southeast - Chatham, Sittingbourne, Gravesend and Woolwich. He worked full time in this role until he was 65.

Became a Grandad with the birth of Gary and again to Mark, Hayley, Erin, Devon, Tavis and Izzine. A role in which he excelled.

Became a Great Grandad with the birth of Kelsey and again to Louis.

Received Congratulations card from The Queen in recognition of 60 years of marriage to Maddie.

Passed peacefully in Charing House Care Home at 01:35.
