Louis Smith (13 Feb 1949 - 29 Dec 2018)

Dear Hilary and family, I’m so sorry to hear Louis has gone to the great bar in the sky. I expect it’s full of Yorkshire men. He’d like that. I had no idea this had happened or I would have been in touch. I’d certainly have been at the funeral. Please let me have a phone number somI can get in touch. Olwen x

Omg I was looking for someone else but found my school teacher . I did look for him a while ago he told us his address when we left Scholl 52 as in cards in a deck and Barclay street as in bank . He was the nicest human ever most genuine person with a very liveable soul God bless you sir

A message filled with gratitude and love from the Smith's to say thank you, so very much, to all our friends and family. All those who were able to attend the funeral or have sent kind messages and cards, those who have kindly donated and those who have visited us since Louis's passing. To those who lifted a glass and those who went home with a conker in their pockets. We are so very thankful to you all, for keeping us going and keeping our memories alive with happy times. Ah, my uncle Paul, what can l say? I hadn’t realised he was known as Louis for a long time.
My family and l went to the party Paul, Hilary and the girls put on to celebrate 40 years of marriage. I spoke to some of their friends and one guy (sorry l forget your name,) told me Louis came from The Jungle Book’s King Louis. I thought it was very apt.
I have many residing memories of my uncle. I remember being about 4 or 5 visiting Paul and Hilary and a then wee Emma in Leicester. We were all saying our goodbyes and Paul scooped me on to his lap and proceeded to list a seemingly endless array of games, dancing, sports, stories and adventures we would share when we next met. As we drove home, l was so thrilled at all the wonderful possibilities, it felt like Christmas!
Another bizarre memory l have of Paul is in the Dales at Top and George ‘s. Top served up some prawns which we tucked into in the snug. Sitting across from Paul l was gobsmacked to watch him chomp down on his plateful, devouring shells, legs, eyes and guts. I’ve since realised he had the right idea - flavour!
I just want to say to you Hilary, Emma and Georgia, we are so sorry Paul has gone. You have all been very brave. We are thinking about you and sending you our deepest condolences.
Here’s to you uncle Paul (you’ll always be John Lennon to me). Thanks for all your love, japes, sweaty bear hugs and laugh - oh that laugh (that sounded a bit like a braying donkey) hee hee!

so sad yoo are gone my friend. We shared a lot of laughter and it sure is a unforgettable laugh!!
louis was my landlord in leicester when i first moved to town, though less of a landlord and more like and old friend! we would pay our rent and he would insist in buying the beers. i’d sit with him, hilary and the pub crew, also very lovely people (hi!) and they would do the times crossword while i tried to understand what they were all talking about. myself and louis always kept in touch even when i moved out of his property because to me he had such a big heart, was always fun and he genuinely cared how my life was going, like good friends do. we work together on a couple of odd jobs here and there and i had the honour of traveling back to his motherland in Yorkshire and visiting his dads old workshop with him. i still have his dads old marking gauge.
i always felt good around louis and knew that it wouldn’t be long before we shared a laugh together, oh that laugh! i will miss yoo my dear friend. thank yoo for the fun, the drinks, the fondue, them big ole hugs, the work, the accommodation , teaching me how to do the cryptic crosswords and just generally being a top bloke, an amazing friend and a great man!!

Louis, you and Hilary were initially our landlords but soon became a good friends.
You were warm, generous and kind. You always wanted to make sure we were ok, be it with pint in hand or just to make us feel good.
I have warm memories of games down the pub, you guys fed me my first fondue and your incredible laugh, I can hear it echoing in my ears as i type and it’s bringing a smile to my face. You will be missed.

Louis was an inspiration to us all the way he fought with massive courage his illness. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends

I spent a few months in Leicester in 2006, Louis and Hilary were my landlords, I thank them to have welcomed me, it was a pleasure to meet them, I have discover the english way of life with them! Courage for Hilary and thoughts for Louis, repose en paix

A wonderful man who will always have a special place in our hearts and will be greatly missed. RIP Louis.

A lovely funny bloke. He always had time for you, as long as you stood your round *hard stare* We will miss him. Bruce & Lou.
