Obituary.
Charles William Barker (Bill) age 90 of Mablethorpe passed away peacefully in Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, in the early hours of Sunday 09.12.18.
Born in Mablethorpe, the eldest son of Dorothy and Charles Barker, he was the last surviving member of the second generation to own and direct the family company “Grayscroft Bus Services Ltd”. Bill was involved in the company from a very early age with a break of two years of National Service in the Royal Air Force Regiment, serving overseas during the conflict in Palestine and Egypt during the late 1940s.
On his return Bill and his brothers, Dick and Noel, ran the company taking full control in 1961 when their father, Charles Barker, passed away.
His job was his hobby and he tried always to uphold the company motto “At Your Service”. To the end, and latterly from his nursing home, he used modern technology to keep up with the day to day management of the company.
He leaves behind a sister, two sons, their families, four Grandchildren and a Great Granddaughter.
Charles William Barker’s funeral will take place at 12.00 at St. Mary’s Church, Mablethorpe on 03.01.19 followed by the committal at Alford Crematorium (family only).
Family flowers only please, with donations to the Lindsey Blind Society and St. Barnabas Hospice.

Karen Reeson donated £10.65 in memory of Charles

I will always remember Bill for being such a lovely bus driver who, so many years ago, used to take us to school. I was lucky enough to meet up with Bill again a couple of years ago and to chat about those times.
I am sorry that I was unable to attend his funeral but I will make a donation of 10.00 to his chosen charities.

Worked for Bill’s lovely wife, Jessie, at The Green Room in Sutton on Sea in the late 70s. Both Jessie and Bill were so kind to me. Really lovely genuine fun people. Condolences to Stephen and Nigel and your families. Many happy memories of you all x

So sad to hear about Bill passing away. Id known him since I first started school. Along with the rest of the Grayscroft drivers he always made sure we got to our destination safely.
My thoughts are with Bills family at this sad time
