Dad was taken suddenly on November 30th. 2018 at 80 years of age. He was seemingly 'fit as a fiddle', still doing what he loved, laying bricks and walking the dogs around Newstead Abbey.
He went into the QMC hospital after taking ill on the 28th and on the morning of Thursday 29th he was dismissed with a slight heart rhythm issue which could be fixed with tablets. "I’m just another old man who needs to take a tablet for the rest of his life", he told me.
A couple of hours later, as he was preparing to leave the hospital, Dad had a turn for the worse and the Doctors didn’t know what was wrong. He went for a CT scan and they discovered an aortic dissection.
Jane and I arrived at the hospital to be told that the scans had been sent to the specialists at the City Hospital and unfortunately, nothing could be done. They also said that they were baffled as to why Dad wasn’t in severe pain and said that most people died before they even got to the ambulance.
Dad passed away peacefully with his family around him at 00.43am on Friday 30th November.
He lived a great life and was much loved. The outpouring of shock and grief reflects his beautiful outlook on life, his sense of fun and genuine care for others. He was a lovely man and a true gentleman.
All who knew Dad are welcome to join us to pay their respects and celebrate his fantastic 80 years.
The funeral is at St. Marys Church, Bulwell on Wednesday December 19th at 10.45am. We will then gather at Rolls Royce Social Club on Watnall Rd., Hucknall, to raise a glass to the great man.
Please leave a memory of Dad on this site and thank you for your support and love of Dad.
