The birds are singing, the mist is rising, daylight is breaking, it’s time to get up. Reflections of my life and where it all started, in Westcliff-on-Sea with Hilda so warm-hearted.

A soft tune I am hearing, it’s David on the piano, my brothers are playing, in our house boat Tornado. My brothers they spoil me, the youngest I am, Brian, Derek, Michael and Sister Pam.

Setting the scene in 1958, we are in Combe Martin, a beauty contest date. Looking so pretty, with bathing suit and smile, the voting is done, it took a while. Is this real, is this a dream, the votes are in I am a Beauty Queen.

It’s time for work, I’ll pull on some warms, and jump on my moped to deliver those forms. Back in the office and time for a cuppa, now let’s get home I must have some supper.

Darkness is falling, another day is closing, in no time at all, I will be dozing.

Thank you Mum, for all you have done, never forgotten your spirit lives on.
