In loving memory of Jean Constance Darnell, who sadly passed away on 18th November 2018, at Grimsby hospital, following a short illness.
Jean was born in Grimsby in 1929, the daughter of David and Rose Hay.
She and her younger brother Ian sadly lost their dad when they were very young and Jean always, thereafter, spoke of her late father with great love and affection.
Jean married Cliff Darnell in 1952, having known him since their schooldays. Cliff's parents, Ernie and Connie and his sisters and brother became a second family for Jean.
Jean and Cliff moved to Waltham, living in the same home for the remainder of their married life.
In their early married years, Jean and Cliff worked in the pathology department of Grimsby hospital. Jean often reminisced, in later life, about their happy times together at the lab, where they made many life-long friends.
Jean left full-time work when she and Cliff had their children, John and Sarah.
She, later, went back to work part-time as a playgroup teacher and, subsequently, as a welfare assistant at the local Primary school where she worked until retirement.
Following the death of her husband, Cliff, Jean remained very active in the Church and local community. She was closely involved in charity work, notably for the Children's Society and the Stroke Association and was always interested in acquiring new skills and education, being a keen student of French, German and Italian.
In later years, Jean spent many happy hours playing with her grandchildren, Tom and Ella.
Jean's father's roots were in Scotland and Jean always felt a strong affinity with that country, spending many memorable holidays there with Cliff and, in later years, with her sister-in-law Shirley.
Jean remained active until well into her 80s, enjoying long conversations on the phone with her cousin Vic, doing crosswords together. She remained healthy and mentally sharp until very close to the end.
Jean will be greatly missed, but leaves behind a lifetime of happy memories for all of those who knew her, especially John and Sarah and their families.
