In loving memory of Dora Dewick who passed away peacefully on 27th October 2018 at St Barnabas Hospice Grantham.
Born in Aston, Birmingham in 1927. Dora was the youngest of 3 children. She left school at 14 to work in a city centre office.
She met her future husband when they both attended the Erdington Citizens Club, during the late 40s and 50s.
Married in 1954 they moved into a house in Stockland Green, Their son Paul arrived in 1961 and Dora paused working outside the home to look after him. When Paul started school Dora went back to work in Erdington as secretarial support in a small office of a builder.
In the early 1970s Dora and Stan hankered for a life outside the big city and after several holidays with Betty and Peter Davis (Friends from the "Club"), who had moved to Hainton a few years earlier, they moved in 1975 to Lincolnshire finding a place to live in Hagworthingham. The Post Office and Village stores then consumed their lives for the next 20 odd years.
Dora's spare time (such that it was) was taken with the "Wild Indians" aka the WI. Through this erstwhile group of ladies Dora found a new zeal for the making, doing and helping that the WI is famous for.
As time moved on and retirement loomed large the Post Office and Village stores closed its doors for the last time, however Dora continued to help out at the "part time" post office in "The Cafe" on the main road when holiday help was required.
When Stan finally fully retired they filled their time with volunteer work and travelling around the UK.
As age began to take its toll and following a short illness she lost her beloved Stan in 2015 after 61 years of marriage.
Dora became too frail to live unaided and moved to a nursing home in 2017 but suffered several debilitating bouts of ill health.
Dora moved to a hospice in Grantham in October where she eventually succumbed to her illness on the 27th.
She will be much missed by Paul, Heidi, Alice and Ben as well as niece Su and lifelong friends Betty, Peter and their family as well as all her friends from Hagg
