In loving memory of Peter Arthur Williams who sadly passed away on 2nd October 2018.
Dad was one of four born to Joyce and George Williams. He had a passion for scouting and liked nothing better than to go to the Quantock Hills with his brother Dennis and his friends ,all on their bikes to camp under the stars!
After moving to Leigh-on-Sea as an adult, he discovered a new love of sailing, one which stayed with him for life, and enjoyed many a happy evening at Leigh Sailing clubhouse with his wife and new friends, John and Hazel . He had a small dingy and he taught his first two children how to sail.
His hobbies included horse riding, tennis, and amateur dramatics, and also was instrumental in giving the best house parties in our area where all the neighbours came and were legendary!
He was very bright and had a strong attitude towards working hard and constantly learning new things. He changed career a couple of times and was successful in everything he did.
He was a loving Father of four and Grandfather of one, who always encouraged his children in everything they did.
After he retired he went to the Cliffs Pavillion every day for lunch , a happy routine he stuck to until he was no longer able to , and one which bought him much pleasure, and entertainment.

Uncle Peter. Lots of happy childhood memories at Medway Cresent and ‘sleepovers’ with Sara and Paul whilst you threw your legendary parties. Hazel remembers all the fun times sailing and at your parties. Hope you are at peace now. With love from the Felthams xxx

I have so many lovely memories of Peter. He was an enthusiatic member of the Thalian Theatre Group for many years, and spent hours on his makeup before each show. He gave us pep talks on our publicity efforts and told us how to get more bums on seats.

He used to invite his friends to a meal in Westcliff after our Friday shows, and in time this morphed into the Thalian Friday Curry Night - which is still well attended by hungry thespians and friends.

He was always full of energy and ideas and lived life to the utmost.

Bless you Peter in your new life. You will always be in our hearts.

Time, a thin veil that separates us from a Pete in white peaked sailors cap
Regaling assembled family and friends of latest business dealings
A shimmering mirage through which one Xmas eve springs back to memory
And one hazy summer day playing French cricket on the beach

And memories take me back to rosemary scones by the river
Latest adventure in love and so much to say of plans and hopes
I liked him, my uncle, he’ll be missed but his leaving is no more than
A boat travelling over the horizon and out of sight with Pete on board

Peter was my godfather and an extremely good one. He never forgot my birthday and I treasure a model car he brought back for me from Germany when he was serving there in the RAF. In my teenage years he was very supportive and I will always be grateful for that support. Although we lived many miles apart we kept in touch as much as possible and I shall miss that contact. Peter, thank you and farewell for the present.
