In loving memory of Callie Lewis
Callie was a beautiful, bright, chatty, unique girl - who was loved by many. So we can all say goodbye to Cal, we invite you to a ceremony at the beautiful Eden Valley Natural Burial ground, in Edenbridge, Kent.
Details
▩ It will start at 2:30pm, on Thursday 20th September.
▩ We want everyone to feel comfortable, so please wear what you would like to wear. If you feel better being smart then come smart, but if you are happier being scruffy then that's OK too (Cal's preferred funeral wear is a band t-shirt and jeans...)
▩ We expect that the more formal part of the ceremony will take around 45 minutes. After this there will be a moment for reflection while we prepare some refreshments. This will be served under the trees.
▩ The whole thing will probably finish around 4:30 - though we are not subject to strict timings!
▩ After this, you are all welcome at Callie's Aunt Rachel's house, where there will be more tea (very important) and other nibbles. If you want to make your own plans, that is fine too.
▩ We don't want flowers, but instead we would welcome a donation to charities that are important to Callie. She used the Samaritans regularly during her life, when she wanted to talk to a kind stranger. And Cal loved cats Please see links on the right of this page.
▩ Eden Valley is a natural burial ground, so do not expect a conventional cemetery. You will notice other raised, and unmarked, burial spots - so please take care when walking around the site. You are, however, free to wander wherever you wish, as Cal would no doubt appreciate!
▩ Finally, please let us know that you are coming. We need numbers for logistics ...
Practical Information
▩ There is a map on the right of this page; but you can also read more about Eden Valley by visiting their website here
▩ We will have room for about 20 cars, which we expect to be enough. The burial space is about a 5 minute walk from the parking area. If that does fill up, we can use the Golf Club car park 100M up the road.
▩ If you are travelling by train, go to Edenbridge Town, which has hourly services from London Victoria and London Bridge (timetable here). There is a train that gets in at 13:45 which would give you ample time to get to the site. It's about a twenty minute walk, or you could book a Taxi with Reylon Cars 01732 863800 (they have a kiosk near the station)
▩ There is no seating at Eden Valley. We ask that if you are able to sit on the floor you either sit on the grass (if it is a dry day), or bring a picnic blanket. If you need to be properly seated then please bring a folding chair.
▩ There are also no toilets - so please make sure you go beforehand! During the day you will be able to go to the golf club next door, but it is a 5-10 minute walk - or you can use the natural facilities ;-)
▩ The entire ceremony will be outdoors, on grassland, with limited cover (though we may get some small Gazebos). Please come prepared...
▩ We will serve some (vegan!) food after the ceremony, but if you want something beforehand, there are several places in Edenbridge. There is also a nice country pub about five miles away called The Woodman which does food all day.
NB We have Eden Valley for the whole day. While we ask you not to arrive too early as we will be preparing, feel free to remain afterwards as long as you like for your own personal reflection.
