When I think of Shirley Green I remember her smile cracking open her face, and her very smart outfits - one in particular was a fine checked suit and a pillar box hat. She used to give me a lift to the Grammar School (her old alma mater - I wasn't surprised to learn from the tribute given at her funeral that she passed the 11+ a year early; she was always smart and quick). She and Sid were great, lifelong friends of my parents and when my mum succumbed to the same condition that would later claim Shirley, Shirley was one of the few true friends who kept visiting her, right up the the very end, for which I will always love her. She had a big heart, a keen eye for fashion, a passion for "doing", whether that be sewing or cooking or organising the home. Good bye Shirley, you will be very missed. Pippa x
