In loving memory of David Thomas who sadly passed away on 27th August 2018.
It was a very difficult day, the 9th March 2018 when Dad got the news he had an inoperable Brain Tumour (Glioblastoma Multiforme) and nobody could really take it all in. There was an unreal feeling to everything. We looked at all the treatment options offered - very few it seemed, if there were any clinical trials or experimental options available...no.. Dad's age was against him. There must be more options?
Chemotherapy (21 days) and Radiotherapy (15 blasts) were our only options, Dad was positive throughout and determined to beat this thing. He stayed positive inside with a great reluctance to give-in, but his body had another agenda. Not strong enough for any further courses of treatment and growing weaker by the day, the tumour quickly took over and Dad passed away less than 6 months later.
***************************
A true gentleman, a softie, kind with a lovely manner yet strong opinions. Always ready to debate the news of the day and point out social injustices happening around the world. Considered and organised and would help anyone who asked for it.
Dad enjoyed 'teaching' people - how to use correct grammar, how to speak French, how to pronounce things properly he was quite particular about it. So after he retired to live in France he began a new career as an English teacher to teach the French how to speak English. The main thing that made Mum and Dad Return to England were Mum's poor health and a need to be closer to the Grandchildren but this was bittersweet as Dad's spiritual home was France.
The move led to a new career as a Funeral Celebrant, he really enjoyed building services around families who needed someone to help them 'say what they needed to say' but couldn't put the words together. He created some memorable days for these families.
There will never be enough space to write about the days/months and memorable moments felt throughout my childhood and life - a happy, fun and filled life.
Thanks to my Mum and Dad xxx
