I worked with Jose for several years at the Riverside (back in the Burton Inns days). He and Isabel were a wonderful couple to work with, and I was gutted when Isabel passed away.
Jose had an ageless quality to him and a wonderful spark of humour that came out when you least expected it. He was fantastic at his job and really cared about both the Riverside family and the customers who came in week after week. I can remember wading past his house when the Riverside was struck with the awful flooding and I had to get to work through a massive pool of water at the entrance. The git stood there and he laughed himself silly at me with my skirt up around my thighs, screeching at how cold the water was. Kept offering to loan me his ladder. Ah, the days.
I am so sorry for this loss, but so happy that he can be with his beloved Isabel now.
RIP, Joe. You were one of the "good'uns"
