Mandi and Guy - I had no idea, until yesterday (31/08), that your wonderful mum had passed away. On behalf of Jo, Ruth and Tim, I'm sending our heartfelt condolences and sympathies. Your mum had such a vibrant personality and was one of Ruddington's truly unique characters. She had a zest for life that's for sure and certainly lived it to the full. I last saw your mum at, appropriately enough, a quiz night at Stanton on the Wolds golf club - she regaled me with the ins and outs of her 90th birthday celebrations, which she hugely enjoyed. Will any of us ever forget the Ruddington quizzes? The bi-annual task of setting the questions to try and outwit the Phetheans (which, of course, we never achieved!) became more and more challenging as the years went by - scarred us for life it did! Both your mum and dad were such prominent figures in Ruddington and very much a positive part of our lives. I think we still have some cine footage of one of the many picnics we all had in Bradgate Park - and a trip to Burghley House - will have to try and dig them out. They were good times and carefree days and we're blessed to have such fond and happy memories.
Love to you both and all your family.

After a short illness, we've had to say goodbye to an incredible woman, Kathleen Mary Phethean...Kathy..or Katy.
She passed peacefully on 1st August 2018, in her own house, in her own bed, with Guy and Mandi holding her hands.
She enjoyed 91 years of good health and up until 2 months ago, she was walking into the village three times a day (complete with cheeky banter to the many who knew her), being completely independent at home and doing crosswords and puzzles like a demon - the sharpest brain in the family, that's for sure - and she kept that sharpness right to the end.
She was an amazingly strong woman, selfless, kind and generous with a streak of quirkiness and fun.
After her beloved husband Kenneth died in 2013, she used to love go with Mandi & Guy to her house in Spain where she would enjoy the food, wine, sun and everything she also used to enjoy at home! (ie Pointless and Eastenders!!)
She was a great, supportive, honest and proud mum, a loving and stylish 'Nana' and an exceptional great-grandparent too.
We're going to miss her daily calls and voicemails which NEVER started 'hello, it's mum/Kathy' as she always launched into exactly what was on her mind at the time!! A real character!!
Finally reunited with husband Kenneth, eldest son Richard, brother Eddie and all her long-standing friends from the war.
Safe onward journey x
