So many precious & blessed memories.
One memory which immediately came to mind was in 1988 the year Kevin & myself were to be married. I was preparing for our wedding. Sue helping in her usual generous, loving and caring unassuming style. So many things I had to think about and plan for. Sue knew that I was not the most organised in those days (nothing changes!) and hence was such a wonderful and massive support in helping me with all the wedding preparations. Her gentle reassuring advice and practical support forever appreciated and remembered with such love and gratitude. Sue’s gift of cake making, providing our beautiful wedding cake also forever cherished in our hearts.
All preparations now in place, relieved at last, nothing more I needed to consider, and the wedding soon upon us.
Sue in her mischievous way, approached me, looked at me very seriously and said “Stall” (the name she had always fondly called me and continued to do so over the past 26yrs too) continued to say “I have a problem with you getting married!”
My heart sank, I’m thinking what could it be, maybe its the cake, maybe Sue had dropped it! I replied “ what’s the problem", now almost in panic mode, Sue said to me “you can’t change your name” the biggest grin then appearing on her face she said “I can’t shout out “ hey Tosser make the tackle! I’ll get sent off the hockey pitch for abusive behaviour!” Sue making reference of course with some minor deviation of my looming name change to Tozer. We decided that in the circumstances and that I had a duty to help my friend Sue out, STALL would remain!!
Needless to say Sue never got sent off in all the years I had the utter privilege of playing alongside her at Belper Hockey Club.
My heart is breaking, so very proud and blessed you were my friend, thank you and indebted for your love and friendship shared over the past 33 years.
Forever in my heart dearest Sue.
