Further information
No dress code; whatever you feel. John said he didn’t want ‘everyone standing around in black’, but I know some people feel this is the right thing for them and that is fine too. Bring suncream/umbrellas etc as appropriate- the burial ground is outside and very open. There are reasonably flat grass pathways, but no paving. Chairs are available for those who need them.
Getting to Westmill: small car park on site, more parking just down the road, and there will be volunteers helping to direct you. If possible to car share, that will make the parking easier. It is 20 minutes walk from the nearest bus stop. There are good directions on the Westmill website.
Getting to The Library: many side streets off Cowley Road have 2 hours free parking. The nearest car parks are Union Street/Tesco on Cowley Road, and St Clements car park. Lots of bus routes go along Cowley Road too.
Photos: We will be displaying some photos on screen in the pub; if you have any you would like to contribute, you can add them on here or get in touch via facebook/email.
Contributions: No flowers please- there are lots of beautiful flowers at the burial ground already! If you would like to make a charity donation in John’s memory instead, here are some ideas of excellent causes - you can donate to Sobell House Hospice Charity and Maggie's Centres via the JustGiving links on top right of this page (or direct to the charity if you prefer) or to The Brain Tumour Charity by clicking here. (the page will only let you add 2 links at the top, so this is the 3rd).
The charities all mean something to John:
Sobell House- John attended the day centre there once a week for the last several months, and spent his last week being very well cared for in the hospice. They are currently building an extension which will enable more people to receive such excellent end of life care.
Maggie's Centres- A centre supporting people with cancer and their families/friends (a good place to go if you need a chat). John used their support particularly after his first surgery, and has helped to fundraise for them in the past.
The Brain Tumour Charity- Support for people with brain tumours, and funding more research to prevent other people going through this in the future.
