I dont know if you remember me. I am Arlette, John's French cousin.
We met twice :
- once at Johnh's parents home in Ilkeston (we were six of us : my husband, myself and our four children in camping car)
- the second time at the church/cimetary in Magny en Bessin for Lucienne's interrement.
I have just read your message in memory of John ; I was very sad to learn the terrible death of John. Neither my mother (born Cussy, who is 91), nor me have been informed. I feel so sorry.
On my side, my husband, Claude, died un Novembre 2017 from a cancer (he was 67 years old).
Late sincere condolences.

In loving memory of John Michael Scattergood who sadly passed away on 26th June 2018
John had a stroke in 2012, he had made quite a good recovery but things took a turn for the worse and in 2016 he was admitted to hospital which was not the best of experiences and he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
On his birthday this year we found his Uncle in France died, Lulu his Godfather, also suffered from Parkinson's and John continued to deteriorate. Sadly John was diagnosed with Vascular Parkinsons which extremely complex. After a traumatic stay in hospital John came home and my darling cantankerous, exasperating, so dearly loved and very poorly husband died in my arms at 7pm on Tuesday 26th of June at home, he is now at peace and in no more pain. He will be returned to France to be with his beloved parents .
John was returned to France and was interred with his parents on the 18th of September 2018 in a village called Magny en Bessin as was his wish. The village is approximately a mile inland from Arromanche in Normandy and is where his mother Lucienne (nee Cussy) came from. His father Frank Scattergood was stationed there during the war at a local farm which is where they met shortly after DDAY.
John spent every year holidaying with his parents and many French relatives who remember him with great affection. The last time we were there in 2015 shortly after his stroke it was sadly to be his last visit.
